The Congress was castrated in 2020 with the acquittal in Trump’s first impeachment trial. That was about whether Congress had any power to rein in the president. They decided they didn’t, so that was that, Trump was officially king then. The 2020 election was about whether the voters would get behind Trump being king. They did not, but then decided in this election that, yeah, a king is what they wanted. That literally means he can go around Congress for everything related to pulling funding (he obviously can’t fund without Congress other than shifting previously allocated resources around without anyone being able to do anything about that), and that’s what they mostly want to do. Curtails being lifted on the president officially were done by the Supreme Court this year. What are you talking about?
The only guard rails are red tape. The people of this country better hope there’s as much red tape as the GOP claims there is, because this administration is going to be trying to bring some mighty big scissors in between all their state sanctioned murder.

Holding out any hope that Congressional Republicans would hold Trump accountable was one of the things I promised I wouldn’t do again this time. I was so naive in 2016.

While I do not think Gaetz will be confirmed, I do think new Supreme Court law will be made extending the powers and duration of an acting attorney general.
Afaik, he has some enemies in the House. Don’t know about the Senate.
Matt Gaetz is a hilarious choice. I can’t imagine he wanted the job.
