Trump Administration Part 2

we’re too lazy for a civil war, they didn’t have televisions or internet or sports back then so what else were they gonna do

Does liberals include working class that voted for Biden?

I can only report the vibes where I"m from and the pressure was already pretty tight before the initial vote count was reported.

Lol D-Hawaii.

Great job media, always awesome.

Yes, thats fair. In the context where MAGA is in power, my intuition is that a “civil war” could only arise from liberals fighting the established power.

Elon will only be looking to castrate the agencies that have ‘wronged’ him. For sure the SEC, and whichever ones have been pissing him off at SpaceX. That and he’ll probably find a few areas that should be eliminated ‘because private entities can do it better/cheaper.’ And oh look SpaceX, Starlink, and Tesla just got $1T to take over those areas.

SEC, Department of Labor, FCC, EPA, and FAA will probably all be on Elon’s list.

But in all cases “efficiency” will just be the excuse to purge anyone who won’t toe the line.

I think the main hurdles to taking a hatchet to government are largely legal/separation of powers/budgetary. It’s a really complicated subject, and the Supreme Court would likely not support Trump for various reasons. I have no idea what Kushner did but Elon will probably do something just as feckless. Like, something real would be firing air traffic controllers, border patrol, meat inspectors, park rangers, court IT personnel, cutting Medicaid/social security/maybe killing Obamacare subsidies, but I don’t think any of this is even possible. It’s all enacted in law, and there’s no line item veto. Like, I have yet to hear a single proposal about how to make government more efficient, even as a proof of concept. To me is sounds like “we’re gonna make America great again” without any concern for doing actual stuff. It’s policy theater because actual policy is a pain that requires laws and votes.

There are many things conservative legal types consider more important than Trumpism. To permit Trump to do what he says would castrate Congress and the judiciary, which the judiciary is not keen on.

Anyway, sure, Trump can end social security and Medicare payments to hospitals, we’ll see how that works out.

My prediction, Trump ends payments to black farmers, funds for historically black colleges, and EPA emissions requirements and declares government efficiency solved.

The Clinton Administration had a big attempt at efficiency they called “reinventing government”. From what I saw second hand (my dad worked for HUD) they sent a bunch of MBAs around the government who didn’t know anything about the departments and did more harm than good.

This is what I expect, but much less focused.

Tillerson did this with the State Department last term. Biden, afaik, undid most of it.

Trump does some random minor stuff and Fox News and people around him say he’s doing great and then he golfs.

So, like maybe 15 prosecutions, half with democrat judges and all with jury trials? Remember the special prosecutor whose staff resigned and went 0/2 on convictions? Besides, most legal cases take a couple of years and Trump will be gone.

I think Elon was mad about EPA/FAA regulations related to rocket launches, so that probably item 1 on the “government efficiency” plan.

Elon definitely has an enemies list. He already tried to get one lawyer fired for investigating him (former government lawyer who had left for private practice). I know people that worked on Musk related investigations, and they are definitely not feeling great.

Attorney General Matt Gaetz, woo lord things are getting nutty.

I’m trying to imagine 30 years ago someone saying yes the guy under investigation for sex trafficking should be a cabinet position

Trump should give his nominees a blanket pardon before office and another one at the end.
