Yea, I mean I like the whole experience, but I can only do so many days in a row spending 6-7 hours in the jeep, especially if we’re running a bit below EV sighting wise.

Also next time I need a longer lens, 70-200mm ain’t cutting it!

Last Safari I rented a 150-600mm, and will probably do the same this time.

This is why I’m seriously considering this camera:

My cousin got this for Galapagos and loves it. Obviously it’s not pro quality, but the plus side you don’t have to carry a gigantic lens around and you’re always ready for some wildlife that pops out.

Yea it definitely looks like a fun camera to use! And obv carrying a few lenses when traveling is a pretty big PITA

How is AA business class? They offered an upgrade on our 3.5 hour international flight for $130 a piece.

Depends on the plane.

For that price I’d take it. But I’m a big wuss when it comes to comfort.

I assume that it’s just the equivalent of domestic first class?.. 2x2 configuration, so a larger seat, and maybe a meal. Seems like a good price for it if you value that. The biggest perk may be in getting off the plane first and not waiting behind more people at immigration.

It sucks but for that price I would do it. Will pay for itself if you’re checking bags.

This is the kind of thing that people rarely regret after the fact, IMO.

Anyone in here from or been to Montreal? I haven’t been many years but I’m taking someone I’m casually dating there on 6-24.

Mask situation?

Casino cliffs?

Bars /strip clubs ?

Restaurants?

Pot situation?

What to do?

Must have been basic economy.

I went for a work a few years back.

Highly recommend Dieu du ciel! They make amazing beer, but it’s also just a really great spot.

Schwartz’s Deli is also an old school smoked meat deli if you want a quick authentic lunch.

We just got legalized when I was there. It’s abundant.

A place by me used to do Montreal smoked meat. I always saw it on the menu but didn’t order it. Then one time I tried it and it was insane. So of course the next time I go back they’ve removed it from the menu. Anything I like is the kiss of death.

That was $50 cheaper.

I spent last winter in Montreal, but most things were closed or had restrictions so I don’t have much up to date info. The language of the casino is French, so poker might be difficult if you don’t understand it. There’s a bunch of strip clubs downtown. Weed is everywhere. Restaurants are good. The metro is super convenient. Dunno what the mask situation is currently, but everything was 5X as strict as the US last year.

Snowdon Deli is just as good as Schwartz’s without waiting in line. St-Viateur and Fairmount are the spots for bagels. La Banquise is the tourist spot for poutine, but some locals prefer Ma Poule Mouillee across the street. There’s lots of great Maghrebi and Vietnamese food available. Oh, and Haitian too.

English is fine anywhere you’re likely to go as a tourist, but it’s nice to drop a bonjour or merci now and then.

Oh, and if you’re coming from outside Canada, ArriveCAN is still a thing you need to do to cross the border, although it feels like it could go away any day now.

I was in Montreal a couple of weeks ago. Very few masks, everything was open. Agree on learning basic French before going. What I did was all touristy stuff, so no big recommendations that zikzak hasn’t already mentioned since it sounds like you’re more into the nightlife scene.

Knowing some food and your basic pleasantries in the local language wherever you end up is sort of like having your towel in Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. Yeah, there’s a list of things everyone should have, and your towel is just one thing on the list, but if they see you have your towel, then you’re at least probably prepared enough, and everyone forgets some things from time to time, so they’ll be happy to cover for a few missing things as long as you have your towel.

The Playground is a great place to play poker, 20-25 minutes south of the city, it’s English oriented and tourist friendly. Also every Sunday is the Piknik Electronik, which is a nice way to spend your Sunday afternoon, even if you’re not really into electronic music. It’s in Parc Jean Drapeau.
