I find this kind of evidence compelling, and this is the type of reality that policies should deal with. My understanding is that most/many sports federations are pretty nuanced about this stuff. However, this does not lead me to the conclusion that one’s preferred gender identity is the relevant test, because there is literally no check on such a policy and potential abuse. So my question is what should be the policy if “open enrollment” is not the standard? I gave a suggestion above about testing, and XY or even “testicles or not” does not cover all cases, but I think that edge cases are uncommon enough that they can be dealt with (like the Algerian boxer).
I suspect those in favor of trans people take this as an insult, because for them gender identity and not some biology-sex-description is the fundamental issue. They may ultimately be right, and I may underestimate the salience of gender in identity, but I tend to think of identity as contingent and malleable.
Dude, I told you years ago how people with an XY karyotype can be born with a female body plan, vagina and all, and live their lives as cis women without knowing anything was unusual about themselves. At this point you’re just being a deliberately ignorant asshole
This potential abuse you refer to is like voter fraud. You can dream up all kinds of far fetched scenarios of illegal immigrants coming to the US to vote. But when we actually look for cases of it, we find that it doesn’t really happen. Cases of it are extremely rare.
It’s the same with men who don’t actually identify as women, lying about it to enter and dominate women’s sports. It’s not a thing that happens aside from a some extremely fucking rare examples.
I think the biology of sex and gender is far more complex and nuanced than people realize. I think you are posting in bad faith, and making an ass out of yourself to hate on a tiny subset of people who just want to live and be recognized for who they know themselves to be under the guise of sports you don’t actually care about except as a bludgeon to use against them
This is bullshit you tell yourself instead of making an argument, accusing me of bad faith and animosity toward trans people. I have zero animosity toward trans people. I may be “making an ass” out of myself, because I generally suspect something is amiss when I see virtuous groupthink. I am particularly sympathetic toward people with nonstandard biologies, but let’s put that to the side. Then you just have people who identify as the opposite sex. I’m fine with that. It’s their right and it’s their personal truth, and they should not be discriminated against, but I don’t feel like I need to reshape my conception of sex to specially validate them, which seems like the actual source of concern here.
I hate to interrupt this stimulating conversation, but it reminded me of a story that I’ve kind of been following. Apparently a bunch of teams are refusing to play against SJSU because of a trans player.
What I really wonder is how much of this is coming from the players on the team and how much is coming from the athletic director/coach/etc. I know that the article says that the “players” refuse but I’m curious what percentage of the players are refusing (30%, 50%, 100%) and how many don’t really care and may be pressured to go along with the refusal.
At least one team forfeited because of the state legislature. The University of Wyoming team wanted to play but ended up forfeiting after being pressured by state legislators
“The Legislature has been very clear that the University of Wyoming, being a publicly funded land grant institution, should not participate in the extremist agenda of Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) or propagate the lie that biological sex can be changed,” the letter, circulated by Sen. Cheri Steinmetz (R-Lingle), states. “We all know it cannot.”
