Not really. Having the rule doesn’t necessitate draconian enforcement.
Uh, no?
This is the kind of argument that I referred to as “twisting”. Being good/strong/whatever enough to make the sports team in the proper division is not a basic human right.
It’s not a human rights violation the other way (I.e. the cis girls are not having their human rights violated if trans girls ARE allowed) either.
It does, though. Because what happens when a freakishly tall Black girl with a big chin gets accused of being trans?
Ignore them, I don’t know? What happens when someone accuses a kid of lying about their age? Rulemaking by edge case is stupid. Make rules that make sense for the 99.5% first and worry about the edge cases after.
Also charge the accuser with harassment if they don’t have any evidence.
Ok then, if it isn’t a right violation, then what exactly are we doing barring trans girls from being able to play sports with their friends/fellow competitors?
OK, kids can play sports according to their lived gender identity.
So I’m a trans girl. I’m not out.
I go to a new school and sign up for the volleyball team.
Under your system I’m allowed to play? How am I stopped?
So it’s just don’t ask don’t tell?
what about if I get really good and apply for college on my track record. How am I stopped?
What about if I get really really good and try out for the Olympics squad? How am I stopped?
The same thing we do when we separate sports divisions in any other way, none of which is lol human rights violations.
Yeah. Get fucked
You are looking at a situation where people are being harmed. They are being bullied. They are committing suicide.
Instead of coming down on the side of the right thing you are prioritizing your need to argue about definitions and words.
Lol human rights. Go fuck yourself
Yes, but why? We have reasons for those separations. This whole thing we are talking about is based around trans females not having an advantage scientifically, so WHY separate them into an incorrect division? For what purpose? What is gained by doing so?
Presumably you have to get your doctor to sign off on some physical form that includes your gender. If you get them to lie for you then go for it.
Probably the same way although if you lie at this point and obtain a scholarship you might be liable for some kind of fraud if found out.
Would leave to individual sports governing bodies or pro sports leagues at the elite and professional level. If they want to do more invasive testing, fine. If they want to let trans women play, fine. I do think care should be taken to include the opinions of the cis female athletes here as that will make up almost all of the potential pool of athletes for these.
Convincing.
Uh, yeah, if you can show that trans females have no athletic advantages over cis females I will change my opinion to agree with you.
I don’t believe that is true, but if you can convince me of that then you will have won (with me).
My job isn’t to convince you. You can be as much of a shitty human on the internet as you like.
Im just not going to pretend you aren’t a shitty human for the sake of your right to split hairs
lol, the only thing you’re in here arguing is that trans kids have to wear arm bands marking them as scary trans kids rather than just letting them do normal kid things. Sure doesn’t sound like you’re so fine with it!
Yup, that’s exactly what I want, obviously.
What the fuck? Thats what this whole conversation has been about from point one. You said that even if science were to prove it that that wouldnt change your mind.
Wat?
I did not say that.
I mean, to be clear, you are going to need more than one cherry picked study to convince me to change my belief that the superior size and physical prowess of males in general would not survive some post puberty hormone therapy because that seems like both
(a) an obviously unintuitive result and
(b) a result that a lot of people would like to see
My stance is pretty simple.
I am willing to discuss not allowing trans women to play women’s sports when trans women are treated as women in all other aspects of life.
No bullshit about men using women’s bathrooms. No bullshit about illegal immigrants receiving gender care in prison. No bullshit about taking health care decisions out of the realm of doctors and into the realm of politicians.
Until people can demonstrate the ability to act like adults about this, I endorse heavy-handed action on this. If doing what’s right on general society ruins some part of sport, then so be it.
So what other athletic advantages do you want excluded from sports?
