Trans Issues In Sports/Society

So if I understand you correctly, you disagree with this part of his post:

Yes.

The extent should be let them play. If there becomes an issue, then it can be discussed. It is literally not an issue to anyone who has sat down to look at the numbers and thought about it for two seconds. There is no crisis. There is no roving bands of trans women destroying every record and winning every title. It simply isnt happening so no, we shouldnt be litigating whether trans people should be treated like every other human when they are winning at a rate almost exactly equal to what we should statistically expect

Maybe when we get done litigating whether to treat trans people like people, we can work on deciding if letting gay people marry will destroy the institution of marriage.

Then we can determine whether interracial couples are destroying the fabric of our society.

And also, why are all the black folk taking away the NBA records from white men?

None of this is hyperbole. Its been less than 7 years since gay marriage was legalized federally. Im sure some here were con on that ten years ago. And 7 years from now I hope those who are taking con here will look back at this thread and feel immense amounts of shame.

Yes the way we changed the minds of people on all those issues was by never talking about them at all

WHOOOSH

The point is NONE of those things had an ounce of fucking merit and this doesnt either. I dont need to change the minds of anyone in this thread, because the change is going to happen regardless because there is no merit to the con side. Just like everything else I mentioned, things will change and the people here standing up against it will look like fucking fools

If you could find even one 22 post from a reg here expressing that view in the last 10 yrs, Iā€™d be pretty surprised. Is there anyone specific you have in mind?

No

Well if you think of someone or come across a post, Iā€™d be very interested. I think you are wrong about that.

Not transphobic at all.

Itā€™s also scary how you view cis women. @LouisCyphre if someone is a woman, that means you want to fuck them? If you donā€™t want to fuck someone, theyā€™re not a woman?

If you change the timeframe to 20 or 30 years Iā€™m sure some of us would be guilty of it. Iā€™ve talked lots before about being raised in a extreme right wing christian upbringing and so of course when I was a teenager I at least passively didnā€™t think there should be gay marriage even if i wasnā€™t running around saying it. Of course I feel shame about that.

Mattā€™s point (I think) is that talking about the issues is fine. Some people here are doing that. Openly saying Democrats shouldnā€™t support trans people or I DONT WANT MY DAUGHTER COMPETING AGAINST TRANS PEOPLE or a dozen other asinine comments in this thread doesnā€™t merit discussion. Itā€™s no different than the right wing hysteria over bathrooms a few years ago. Itā€™s hysteria not based in reality and itā€™s just pure gross bigotry.

I said it before but imagine being transgender or even just a member of the LBGTQ community and reading through this thread. Would you feel supported here? Would you feel safe here? I canā€™t speak for those people but my guess is no and that is really sad considering what this place is supposed to be imo.

Iā€™m interpreting him very differently. I think he is saying that is is most definitely not fine.

I think you miss my point. If you want to discuss transgender issues I am sure that is fine with that. But pretty much coming out and saying you donā€™t think a transgender woman should compete with women at all or unless conditions xyz are met is just purely prejudicial imo. There also is no problem and you guys are creating a problem where one doesnā€™t exist. I donā€™t know if itā€™s your previous beliefs or if you have gotten sucked into right wing propaganda or what happened here exactly. But he is right that the swimmer controversy isnā€™t a controversy. She isnā€™t a dominant swimmer really. As has been pointed out she competed in lots of other events and did not win. Itā€™s pure hysteria and itā€™s hard to see anyone saying she shouldnā€™t be allowed to compete as anything other than a bigot.

Youā€™re probably not wrong, but can you think of a place on the internet where discussion of this topic takes place, where they would feel more supported or safe than here? Itā€™s probably a very short list. My guess is that in most places they would feel way worse.

Well we arenā€™t the worst place on the internet. Iā€™ll give you that.

Oh yeah, Iā€™m sure he would be fine with discussion of various transgender issues. (I think) he is not fine with discussion of this issue specifically.

Because there isnā€™t really an issue here to discuss. Explain what the harm was in letting the woman in question swim?

Youā€™re underselling it. Anyone who is being honest would say weā€™re closer to the top than the bottom.

Admittedly, internet discussions are a cesspool, so itā€™s not really much of a brag, but itā€™s true.

Well personally, Iā€™m not very interested in her individual case at all. Iā€™m interested in general concepts that I can apply to discussions of any such cases that I will encounter.
