As someone else mentioned HS sports are actually super important with scholarships and the prospect of going pro as well. You don’t get to the pro level without doing great in HS.
That said the argument that trans women deserve these opportunities for scholarships is also really legit. I feel like this sucks either way, either cis women get shafted or trans get shafted.
The obvious answer is to make college paid for by taxes but lol this country.

Optimal line is for them to just rubberstamp the conclusion the other three come to. If they don’t because they’re cis white assholes then take them out of the equation. At that point maybe we do need the federal gov to step in and overrule them and enforce the conclusion the other three come to.

This is where we disagree and why there needs a study to confirm it.
And sure the discussion has value, but we should not be apart of the decision making process. Like we should not be voting and trying to impose are wills on any of them. They should make that decision for themselves. Cis men have been imposing their wills on both classes way too much as it is.
If no cis women object to compete with trans women then this is a non-issue. What percentage of cis women would have to object for any of you to consider not allowing trans women in the same competition?
Honestly if it’s really close I’d be comfortable with it. If its like 52% vs 48% to not let them compete I’d guess a big percentage of the 52% are just bigots. If it’s close like that it’s probably not because they feel they’re at a competitive disadvantage.
If it’s something like 60%+ then I wouldn’t be cool with it.
Then again like I was saying I don’t think my opinion should really matter. For example if they have a vote on it and no competing gets 51% that’s about as fair as I can think of although I would think it would suck if it’s that close, I don’t think me or people like me should be stepping in to enforce my views on that 51%
What percentage of people with short legs would have to object for you to consider not allowing people with long legs in the same competition?

Short/long legs is not how athletes have been separated historically. What counts is having a y-chromosome that gives someone a physical advantage over someone not having one. To account for this competitive disadvantage separate leagues were created for what was at the time considered male/female.
I’ll ask again: should there be separate competitions for women?

Sure.
Are trans women women? Isnt that the whole problem with the idea of terfs?

What is the reason for those separate competitions?
Most of the initial reasons women could not compete with men had nothing to do with “fairness.” They’re the same reasons you didn’t see female officials until this decade in sports, havent seen a female head coach in any major league etc.

What are the current reasons?

The idea of a male MMAer transitioning and becoming a female MMAer then beating the shit out of the other women is pretty disturbing.
Among kids though? Let em play!

Mostly keeping the status quo, sport being run by dinosaurs and gatekeeping?
It’s obviously good women have their own leagues and they are mostly growing (NWHL died recently, WSL growing well though) but who gets to play has never been about fairness.
I think even this train of thought is insulting tbh. No one goes “man, Lebron would crush the wnba it would be ridiculous if he converted!”

Ignoring the fact that without women only divisions there’s no women sports in most sports isn’t helpful imo.

This isn’t reality though. Any transitioning athlete with a chance to win would end up like Pistorious. Oscar never even had a good chance at winning anything but spent most of his peak in court battles and didn’t get sponsorships. He was more disliked than not. And this was for someone born without legs!
Just so everyone knows, as soon as this debate about trans women in sports eventually winds down they will just move on their next made up wedge issue so they can kick trans people some more. A couple years ago the whole world had to debate weather or not I should be able to go to the bathroom in public. It’s really not fun to be trans. And when people just repeat the same made up talking points that republicans use you’re only helping their side and their never ending quest to hurt minorities.

Serious question: Do sports that allow transgender athletes require that the athlete be transitioning? If so how far along do they need to be? Is merely identifying as female enough?

This. Super weird take to be arguing because women have been subjected under a patriarchal system for millennia it only make sense trans people should too.
Because of sexism not some genetic essentialism.
