Do you think Lia’s case requires a reexamination of the guidelines or is this a case where you believe that Lia won fairly and it’s those who just hate transgender folk that are pissed because she finished first?
To the first I dont know. I’m not close enough to either the case or the guidelines in that specific sport. To choose to have a strong opinion on something which I am so far removed from, and a sport I dont care about, is problematic. Especially in the context I laid out above.
As for the motivations of those asking. 99% yes. Transphobia, of varying degrees. Of the 1% they are largely being transphobic without intent, and/or okay with others being transphobic.
My point is to illustrate the aggressiveness of going for accusations of moral deficiency at the drop of a hat, which is what Rugby is doing here. I am not actually accusing Rugby of mental deficiency of course, but I wanted to make that post as an illustration of how it feels.
maybe we can place the underprivileged with jobs in this burgeoning sector of the economy. trained in the discipline of nimbly navigating the uncharted.
good thing there wasn’t modern medicine in ancient times. some cultures might’ve found the new technology a challenge to their already permissive way of life.
In a perfect world where transgender people were not being actively discriminated against in lots of ways could we sit around and have a navel gazing conversation about who should and shouldn’t be allowed to participate in women’s sports? Maybe. We don’t live in that world. We live in the world where Fox News and the like has weaponized this story and similar other stories to try and hurt transgender people as a whole and make excuses for laws that have already been passed basically criminalizing transgender people in states like Texas, Florida and others.
If you were transgender would you feel safe participating in this forum after this thread? Of course not. Do better.
it’s just uncertain. and to think 300 million should just internalize overnight some hypothetical doctrine on how we are to proceed as a society, is an available activity.
