Jerry Maguire sucks. It’s a chick flick disguised as a sports movie.
boo this man gif, Jerry maguire is fucking great.
Nah it sucks. Entire premise is bullshit. Some lawyer jackoff working as a sports agent has a moral epiphany? Yea OK.
In honor of the dearly departed Kelly Preston, I came here to let you go
By the way, I challenge you to watch that Hader video and NOT go down a Bill Hader YouTube rabbit hole in which he becomes your favorite person.
Jerry Maguire is a fun good movie but the structure is weird; if I’m remembering right, he has his mission statement epiphany in the first scene, and then spends the rest of the movie trying to change into the guy that he changed into in the first scene
I should have stipulated that we are ranking all films except this one. Otherwise we’d all have the same favorite Cruise film.
I knew some philistine would come along and say this, but it’s the opposite of correct. Magnolia is a masterpiece. And Cruise’s handful of scenes, especially the one where he attempts to “emote” at his father’s deathbed, are the only things detracting from otherwise near-perfection.
Top Gun/Color of Money/Rain Man was a pretty solid run. I also liked All the Right Moves more than most people.
I’m wondering if I should re-watch Eyes Wide Shut. All I really remember is a lot of naked people and not really understanding what the hell was going on.
I’ve been a Cruise fan ever since I saw him in Taps, and A Few Good Men is one of my favorite movies.
Kelly Preston was so fine. Like Lauren Holly, oft overlooked, but stunning.
I think I never had a problem with the performance because this is a case where Cruise’s difficulty fit the character so well that it enhanced the performance. Sort of like Justin Timberlake as Sean Parker in The Social Network. JT isn’t awful, but he was quite green there, except him coming across as kind of forced and performative fit the character so well that I wouldn’t change a thing. (that’s not my thought, I cribbed it from the podcast episodes of Truth vs Hollywood on this movie)
Tom did an interview with someone in which he tells an absolutely bonkers story about working on Eyes Wide Shut and Kubrick directing a ginormous scene with Tom and Sidney Pollack and a pool table. Tom laughs while telling the story because Stanley was crazy and I’d love to listen to it again but I can’t find it. Thanks in advance to anyone who finds it.
lol Edge of Tomorrow is goofy af. watched half, and wasn’t interested in watching the rest
