TJ plays a ton of poker in Vegas for WSOP! ...And occasionally eats

If you are unfamiliar with PLO bomb pots, play tighter than you would think and be real careful with the nut straight, especially if you have nothing going on the other board, because you’re gonna get quartered a lot.

Nut flushes, top boats and really good 2-way nut draws are what you’re looking for. Strong non-nut hands with a solid draw on the other board can work too.

Slightly more complicated is knowing when to bluffraise with a lock/nothing hand vs when to try to induce overcalls.

2/3 of the way to the other thread?

+2755 at Resorts World! I think I like this place

Split one 3way all in bomb pot and didn’t lose any. It was definitely an interesting dynamic, most stacks were 300+ bb deep and at least two were going in by every river.

Seriously though, the chairs are way more comfortable than at the Wynn, and there seem to be tons of food options at all price ranges. Competent dealers, good drink service, definitely a nice room. At least on par with Venetian and the others, better than Bellagio. 1/3 is 400 cap, and 2/5 is 1200 cap.

How busy are they? Have a friend that deals there and says it’s dead but that was pre wsop. He’s also an unreliable narrator.

Maybe 7 or 8 cash game tables going when I walked in at 1 on a Tuesday, plus a daily tourney going on. Room looked 80% full when I left at 6, with new games starting everywhere.

Decided to try Ping Pang Pong, which some say is the best Chinese food in Vegas. It’s in the Gold Coast casino, and it always amazes me to see busy rooms full of gambling people everywhere, even at not the nicest strip resorts.

Anyway, Ping Pang Pong specializes in dim sum, which means you and your group pick a tea, then order dumplings for everyone to share based on their tea.

I went with the boba milk tea, which surprised me.

They put these sweet tapioca pearls at the bottom, and give you a wide straw so that you get a couple with every sip. The tapioca pearls had a consistency between gummy bears and boogers, and they tasted sweet to go with the tea. The tea tasted kinda like a mocha/caramel iced coffee or macchiato.

For my dumplings, I ordered the steamed barbecue pork bao. Basically they take a dollop of seasoned and sauced barbecue pork, put it in some chewy dough and steam it. I think the sauce was a little too sweet, but it was good.

For my entree, I got the beef flat rice noodle dish. They had an exotic “live seafood” section of the menu, which I’m not adventurous enough to try. I was deciding between the beef noodles and the braised oxtail in red wine sauce, and I think I should have went with the latter. The noodles were fine, and about what I expected.

The tea was $4, the pork bao was $6, and the noodles were $14, so it was a good and affordable meal.

I’m on the list for 1/2 PLO at Aria, that’s where I’m heading next!

I think Oxtail is 100% the play there but everything else looks good. Wtg at Resorts btw. Keep it up

Gonna try!

19th on the list when I checked in :rage::rage:

Maybe I’ll try to pull a Leon and play some video poker while I wait?

WTF, 7/5?!?

I guess I’ll just play chess on my phone for free or something

Had you just never had boba before and wanted to try something random and new? Because this is exactly what boba is, and it’s not all that hard to find in most places with even a halfway decent Asian food scene.

Alright, time to take down that 1500 tournament!

Pretty much. The Asian scene on the West coast seems a lot bigger than the east coast everywhere except NYC

We’ll see where the ol’ roll is sitting by Friday.

Definitely a nice boost, though!

Seems like it was pretty easy to find in my old digs in upstate NY, but granted, that may not be true everywhere out east. But, cool, it’s fun stuff to try. Not something I get much, but it was certainly fun the first time.

The real dim sum experience is in the morning when you pick the dishes you want off of roaming carts.

This is true, but you forgot to add that you have to pick at least two things that you have no idea what they are. Had a really great place for this within walking distance of my old place. Always a huge crowd of Chinese people waiting to get in every Saturday and Sunday.

This is the key to knowing the good places.

There is a line at PPP when it opens in the morning. Almost all Asian.

Everything that you don’t know what it is has red bean paste. All of it.

I know, right? This place even had pretty bad Yelp reviews, but it was great.

Except for that time when I was expecting red bean paste dessert dumplings and got black sesame paste dessert dumplings, which was an awesome upgrade.
