lol nobody’s signing up for that nazi-run website bruh
I’m not an expert but that looks like a pretty safe +1D flip for the new district 2. I assume 7 is still safe even after losing the Montgomery packing.
I hope so, the new districts are about 50% black each, Sewells will be fine, other one depends on candidate and our party here might as well not exist so hopefully they get it together for this, hopefully DNC helps
The fact that the US doesn’t use independent boundary commissions like Canada has to be top three dumbest aspects of system there.
Serious question: How exactly do you create an “independent” or “non-partisan” commission of any kind. And how does one ensure that they actually are that way? They exist, so there must be some way that both sides can abide. I’m interested in the precise details.
I don’t know the answer to that. I assume it partly involves not having an insane deeply partisan two party system with incentives designed to ignore the greater good.
You can read about it here. I think it just comes down to having a law that sets out how commission members are chosen:
and banning the direct involvement of the the politicians with a stake in the electoral outcome.
Is that “indepedent”? In practice, every person in the world comes with their own persepctive and notions of right and wrong and how things should work. But there is at least an explicit attempt on the law to exclude the politicians themselves from the decision making authority.
Probably easier when there’s not a significant minority population you’re trying to disenfranchise.
It helps that our judiciary and judicial selection process isn’t nakedly political. I don’t even know who sits on our Supreme Court.
If we had that system here, we’d get one right-wing but maybe not full nutjob from Roberts and then two completely partisans RWNJ whenever we have a R speaker. Would almost certainly lead to worse outcomes than current system where at least R’s can only gerrymander states they control.
I agree that it helps Canada that the median Canadian is less stupid and evil than the median American.
THAT’S SOCIALISM!
Canada’s Indigenous population might want to have a word with you on that one.

i’m sure this is totally just an honest addition to the GA voter registrations… you just gotta have a quick easy way to cancel your voter registration, and familiarity is important, that’s why it looks EXACLTY THE SAME as the check your voter registration page…
and you should only need a birthdate as personal information so it’s easy to use you know for yourself… totally private information that other people wouldn’t have to just cancel that registration quick and easily.
The tweet says you need a driver’s license number as well, although that’s not seen in the screen shot, so I’m not sure how it works. That is much harder to obtain for another person. But yeah, there’s probably some ugly motives behind this given GA’s history of voter suppression.
