The TSLA Market / Economy

Dude, just call your credit card company and tell them the charge is no longer authorized and there is no way to cancel it that you can find. It’s like a 5 minute phone call. Continuing to pay it is fucking crazy.

yea I’ve done this, you don’t even need to speak to anyone. or just cancel the card and order a new one, which I do every few years to get rid of stuff like this

It seems nuts to me also. Like you already spent a ton of money on a nice bike, shouldn’t it already include a ton of workouts or whatever. Why do you then need to spend $40/month more just to use it? Seems like you could also just look up different workouts on YouTube or something. But I know next to nothing about Peloton, so maybe it’s normal. I can see why they’re getting crushed other than when the whole world is locked down.

Every 2ish years I report my cards lost so every subscription gets cancelled and I get a fresh start with them. Works great!

Strange I got a new card from American Express with new numbers and they kept paying these repeating charges on it. I even had a 50 percent deposit on some wine futures from like 2 years ago, and when it arrived at customs they charged the remaining 50 percent and it went through despite the card number changing in the interim period. I did cancel 3 things over the past few months, but you are correct that I have to find some way to get rid of these other things too.

Subscriptions will sometimes transfer onto a new card, but if you specifically call and tell them the situation the credit card company will start rejecting the charges.

What the hell do you all pay for gym memberships that $40/month is crazy? I have the dirt-cheap-tier Gold’s membership and it’s still ~$50/month. All the fancy shit around me is like $150/month. $40/month is great value if you’re actually using it.

I think the $40 just gets you a bike that talks to you or has a built in DJ or something.

planet fitness is $15 and has free pizza.

edit: googled and their prices went up.

Isn’t it live streaming workout sessions and you can probably train with/race other people? The concept rower I have has similar subscriptions where you can race real people in real time, etc. I don’t do it because just actually getting on the rower is a win for me, but I could see this kind of stuff being hugely motivating.

But your gym has more than just a bike.

$28/mo (after factoring in the annual fee) is what PF costs for my other half and I combined. And we get to work out at any of their locations.

I just wish they had a Jacobs Ladder

Pretending to not be able to figure out Peloton is weird. Do we not remember the infamous commercial?

This is like not understanding iPhones when flip phones call and text perfectly well for half the price.

I have been stubbornly refusing to watch the commercial and I still honestly do not know if the bike does some sort of personalized coaching or online HU races for rollz or both or some other thing(s).

I’m just wondering why everyone thinks $40/mo to use your peloton is a great deal, compared to $0/mo to ride a bike on the street?

True, but that $50/month doesn’t include any spin classes or trainers or whatever, it basically just gets me access to squat racks.

I guess what I’m trying to say is $40 is a totally reasonable price and is low enough to look like a deal to people who otherwise would go to gyms or boutique class venues in person.

It’s a personal spin class. Like, exactly the same thing. Same reason people like those is why they like Peloton. It’s also a iphone level of slick/well produced/easy to use for complete strangers to the tech.

I get you on the commercials/viral viewing in pop culture thing, I still haven’t seen 2 girls 1 cup and will probably go my whole life without doing so.

Because it’s an enjoyable, well produced entertainment product that happens to do fitness.

Why buy a TV and Netflix when an imagination has an even bigger library and is free?

Riding a bike on the street is for suicidal people or people not able to properly assess risk/benefits. Yeah, let me go ride completely exposed to 1-2 ton machines that can crush me to death for “health benefits.” And I’m going to run every stop sign in town while I’m at it!

Everytime I discuss the idea of starting to bike with a regular biker I say, “well, I’m really worried about getting hit by a car, seems super dangerous….” And everytime I hear back, “yeah that has happened to me a couple of times, it sucks….”

I… don’t know what a spin class is either.

Not sure if I’ve actually seen the 2 girls video. I saw about 30 seconds of something in the same genre way back in the 90’s, and that was 30 seconds too much.
