The Television Streaming Thread: Part III

YouTubeTV price increasing in January to $82/mo.

I read the book, but never watched the show, in part because I couldn’t imagine any other actress playing the girlfriend aside from the young Laura Dern I had pictured as the character in the book.

You gotta check it out. Even people who didn’t like the adaptation said the girl who plays Sadie was great.

The current season of Survivor has been outstanding.

You only play malcolm’s dad twice. Once on the way up and once on the way down.

Been a lot of fun. The Italy operation episode (or whatever) editing was chef’s kiss.

A winner other than Rachel will be unsatisfying. Sam would make sense if he can get Rachel out at 4. Sue or Teenie would be wtf.

So binged all 8 episodes of the Alex Cross thing on Amazon Prime.

Are the books written so poorly? How many of his ā€œfriendsā€ are really just waiting to turn on him.

I kept watching causing that’s what I downloaded for my flight to India. I liked several of the performances (but singling out the chief of police as awful). but it just doesnt hold up. Too many contrivances.

Also as an old white guy, parts of it seemed like black exploitation at points, but I’m in no position to say. Most of it seemed out of the 70s. Would appreciate other takes if you’ve already watched. Any idea on the writing/production team. That said there is a lot of positive representation though some of that hits false after the twists.

If you haven’t watched, don’t.

I’d spoiler the above but they show spoilers itself pretty well. Once we figure out the most implausible twist is going to be the actual twist it’s just rinse and repeat all the way down.

2/5 bags of too buttery microwave popcorn.

A little disappointed in the last two episodes of The Jackal, season 1. Brings it down from a 5/5 to a still solid 4/5.

James Patterson is meant to be read with your mind half turned off. I read them while doing a call center job in college. The answer is pretty much yes. Huge volume of shitty books = lots of money.

Went from meticulous planning to seat of the pants much too quick.

I thought in particular the last episode was extra weak. Didn’t mesh at all with the rest of the season to me, left me feeling very underwhelmed as we go into ā€œseason 2ā€.

His love interest appears to be an actress from Sex Education. She was good on that show but I got exactly zero ā€œthis girl is going placesā€ from her.

It was very unusual what they did. I can’t think of a show rn where they killed the main character on the ā€œgoodā€ side (and her faithful side-kick) in the season finale. The only comparison that comes to mind is Ned Stark in GoT, but that was before mid-season in a show that had a lot of main characters. The Day of the Jackal had exactly two main characters imo, and you could argue that Bianca was more dominant even.

And I actually look forward to see how the Jackal offs Charles Dance in season 2. Small prediction: as we saw the nod to the original movie with the watermelon exercise, I predict we see Charles Dance’s character getting got by the Jackal while on the loo! :transmet_smiley:

Starting a Severance rewatch. For the first watch I didn’t get into it until several episodes in, so I’m really enjoying the first ones with the benefit of hindsight. This show is so good.

Bear Season 3

They might as well have just wrapped the series up instead of dragging it out. Besides the birth episode, which was great, the whole season was filler and recessed chin staring into space. In this context, ending with ā€œTo Be Continuedā€ was super lame.
