Contrary to most of the Arcane love here, Season 2 has lost me. I re-watched all of season 1 to catch up. I’m still pretty lost on what’s actually happening and what characters are doing and why. VI and Jinx feel backgrounded and don’t actually seem to affect anything. (Except dead characters who aren’t actually dead).
They are trying all the political Game of Thrones machinations, but no foundation has been laid as to why certain characters are obeyed. The warrior queen with kidnapped kids
And don’t ask me to explain Hex and all it’s properties/magic. It’s mumbo-jumbo to me.
I’ll watch the last 3 eps to drop, but not rushing
Edit: Oh yeah, and fights with everything destroyed, and everyone is fine. But one bomb takes out half a government. . Ugh
For those who do want to watch Pantheon, S1 is available on Netflix. Season 2 has been uploaded here to youtube about two months ago. It appears Amazon does not seem to be interested in taking it down, so it should be there a while. This keeps you from having to ride the pirate ships to find S2.
This is mostly for @MCG but also anyone else who has finished the series. Go to this youtube link and use the > and < to advance and rewind the title sequences for each of the nine episodes of Arcane S2 side by side. There are some very cool subtle differences in each episode that are pretty much subliminal but spell out huge pieces of the episodes. Pretty neat touch by the creators
Seriously, don’t do that if you haven’t watched yet.
I would agree with this. S1 was an absolute joy to rewatch, but S2, while still amazing, is feeling a bit convoluted. We’ll see how it finishes as I’m only thru 5 eps. I’d still give S2 so far a 9/10 whereas S1 is a no brainer 10/10.
Michael Schur’s latest comedy, starring Ted Danson. Danson is a widower who, while he won’t completely admit it, is lonely and lost without his wife. His daughter wants him to get out there and find a hobby, activity, something to help himself feel whole. He stumbles upon a classified ad for a private investigator’s assistant and ends up getting a job to go undercover at a retirement community to catch a jewel thief.
Watched the first two episodes and it’s pretty much what you’d expect from Schur. Funny with heart. It’s not uproariously hilarious, but I did laugh out loud a few times - it’s certainly consistently funny throughout. Danson’s character seems to be written well - you can feel his heartbreak while he is simultaneously excited to have a new purpose. My wife looked at each other multiple times acknowledging the truth in a lot of things he said and did that reminded us of our parents or even ourselves when dealing with our kids.
The new Jon Benet Ramsey doc on Netflix is kind of a WTF. Seems to be a ACAB always event. But I know literally nothing about the case? Someone else’s DNA evidence on the body/etc seems pretty conclusive and they still tried to make the family the murderers?
I kind of agree with the thoughts on Arcane. I like it, but it feels like they are trying to do too much. It’s been 3 years since S1 and they are trying to cram a lot of shit into this show rather than letting it breathe. I’m sure the animation is expensive as hell because holy shit the visuals are amazing. I’m only 4 episodes in right now, and I am enjoying it, but it feels like they could’ve cut the amount of branching storylines in about half and it would be even better. I’m sure it will come together in a way that makes sense towards the end, but it doesn’t make the middle any easier to follow.
I hate to say it but I don’t think Arcane is for me. Only watched one episode. It’s clearly an amazing show. The visuals are insanely good. Storylines are fine and characters are distinct and likeable. It’s just not to my taste enough that any payoff is going to hook me. Feelsbadman.
