Yup, that news has been out there for a bit. I remember an item when his TV wife was asked about a reunion for the show, and she said something about being open to it if his character was in a coffin.
Jesus Christ this show. I expected it to be good, but itās really powerful. I just finished it last night and Iāve been kind of catatonic since. Like, how am I supposed to give a shit about my spreadsheets at work when our society is letting down young men and women like this? Fucking hell.
Finished Mr. Inbetween. Itās one of the best shows ever imo. Definitely for the genre. A tight three seasons and hardly even talked about which is just insane. Great acting all around but definitely the lead and the leadās daughter absolutely kill it. Itās better than BB with a much better ending imo. Itās Breaking Bad with actual likable characters.
We watched the first two episodes tonight, next two tomorrow. Iām more of a bingewatcher than my gf, this is what I get for agreeing to watch it together. Now I have to wait a whole day.
Iām probably going to bring on a massive amount of hate with this take but here goes:
1.5 eps in to Adolescence and while I agree the idea of one camera/one take adds some element to the show that is unique and obviously very difficult the story itself is boring. Itās possible I got my expectations too high (and got moderately spoilered by people posting about kids getting redpilled here without spoiler tags) but the actual story itself is just not compelling yet. Is it possibly because I donāt have kids I am not really going to be as affected by the obvious heavy handed message that society is a disaster and the main victims are the kids?
I will agree the way they shot it is groundbreaking and I think pretty amazing. The story is just not doing it for me 40% in and I care zero about the characters. I assume Iāll finish it but I wouldnāt say Iām hugely looking forward to it. Like with a lot of things Iām guessing my opinion changes by the end. I hope it does.
Based on what Iāve read about Adolescence here and elsewhere I have zero desire to watch. Iām worried/sad enough about the state of the world as it is.
You are allowed to like or dislike any show for whatever reason. Here are some reactions from me just to explain why I liked it so much.
the story itself is boring
I can understand this view. To me part of the power of the show is that it presents some fundamentally horrific material but it is at the same time a boring, normal family. I experienced this as a positive of the show, not a negative. But I hear where youāre coming from.
the obvious heavy handed message that society is a disaster and the main victims are the kids
Also fair. Where I think the show has impact is that it isnāt so much concerned about the message that society is a disaster, but rather the human struggle to manage and react to such a profound rot at the core of a lot of what we do and who we are.
Itās certainly rough to watch a show that basically underscores that the seeds for real human tragedy are planted in the fertile soil of social media bullshit, which everyone in our world carries around in their pockets 24/7 and are mostly addicted to. Having said that, the show is rich in empathy. Thatās something.
