The Television Streaming Thread: Part II - Hot Takes, Jags Fans, and Bert

Actually about 2.5 seasons. Enjoy.

Watched Eric Andreā€™s comedy special on HBO and it wasnā€™t good. It was like a poor rehash of the Eric Andre show. Only funny part was the last part of having a guy ā€˜bob for puddingā€™ and then when he came up with chocolate pudding on his face Andre accused him of doing backface.

Also donā€™t bother with the Canadian remake. The government pays for Walterā€™s cancer treatments and he never starts cooking meth.

This true crime documentary is good. At least better than usual. Iā€™ve been binging the two seasons all day

If you havenā€™t already, check out ā€œLove Has Wonā€, it is also absolutely bonkers.

I was thrilled recently to see Las Vegas (2003) streaming on Peacock. I loved it when it originally aired but havenā€™t seen it streaming anywhere in recent years.

It stars James Caan as the head of security, and later president of the fictional Montecito casino and resort in Vegas.

The good - it stars a bunch of good looking people having fun little adventures every week solving murders and theft, etc in the coolest place in America.

The bad - this show is bonkers. I honestly think the writers didnā€™t give a fuck. At times it feels like the show is actually financed by the city of Las Vegas. Certain storylines are either sped through or completely forgotten about. Thereā€™s also a feeling that they were unsure what kind of show they wanted to make.

2 major characters leave at the beginning of the 5th season. The circumstances surrounding this departure are completely ridiculous and the rest of the characters seems almost completely unaffected by it.

There are all kinds of celebrities and musical acts showing up over the course of the show, which makes sense given the venue, yet somehow feels like completely forced bullshit.

It actually ends on a ā€œto be continuedā€. A show that ran for 5 seasons didnā€™t get a finale and ended on a cliffhanger lol. Apparently the writerā€™s strike in 2008 was the reason for this.

Anyway, despite all this, and more, I love this show. Itā€™s guilty pleasure viewing and I had a blast binging it all over again.

I almost posted about this show earlier. I just finished the episode with Jean Claude Van Damme lol what a show. Itā€™s as bingeable as Entourage. I havenā€™t seen it since it first aired. Itā€™s neat to see so much of the strip and go oh hey Iā€™ve been there, I stood in that spot. For me, Vegas has been essentially the same for a long time. Just depends on whether youā€™re at Fremont or Las Vegas Blvd.

I think I failed to mention that James Caan is absolutely bad ass here and makes the show awesome

Better or worse than 9-1-1 and 9-1-1 Lonestar?

Havenā€™t seen either

Re: Las Vegas -

I forgot to talk about the technology. The show premiered at a time before smart phones. You hear them refer to ā€œPDAsā€ several times and they use flip phones yet the security and surveillance stuff suffers from all the usual tropes (zoom in, enhance, etc) and more. They somehow have technology in 2003 that we still donā€™t have now and itā€™s fantastic.

And I didnā€™t give James Caan his due in my original post. Heā€™s just pure bad ass and my favorite part of the show.

Beetlejuice should do a Las Vegas thread when he finishes moonlighting. Itā€™s that ridiculous

Which two left? I think I watched a couple of seasons before I lost interest.

Weā€™ve all just been chasing the dragon after Breaking Bad, that was peak TV.

Yeah, this.

Even BCS didnā€™t quite do it for me. It was good, but it was handicapped by the fact it was a prequel and the fate of key characters was known.

Breaking Bad has a strong argument for GOAT, but if it has the crown then I donā€™t think itā€™s a massive gap between it and #2.

It feels a little dark right this second because the best show left on TV (Succession) sunsetted, but I have blind faith that thereā€™s more greatness in the works.

I think iā€™ve got BB #1, Wire #2. The gap there is small. I didnā€™t love Succession as much as everyone else. There are a lot of contenders for #3, but I think that the gap between #2 and #3 is significant (put probably not massive).

I remember watching this show years ago. The other night I saw it randomly and watched a couple episodes. It was amazing. Molly Simms is kidnapped by the guy that plays Shooter Mcgavin, a Tibetan monk canā€™t stop winning at the casino.
