The Television Streaming Thread: Part II - Hot Takes, Jags Fans, and Bert

Archive 81 is great, tho.

Yeah, my wife and I have watched two episodes and are really enjoying it.

Struggling to finish Reacher, I just dgaf about the plot at all. Are we supposed to care about the bad guys? Him avenging his brother? There doesn’t seem to be any intriguing mystery or any tangible antagonist.

It also plods along with super boring barbershop and banker’s wife scenes or other dialog-heavy lulls where the actors are nowhere near charasmatic enough to make interesting.

The whole package of the show seems just so vanilla as well, like they could take out the swearing and the random nudity and it would be 100% at home on CBS.

Turned off the brain and enjoyed the show. But gotta applaud the excellent slam.

Watched the first four episodes of season 5.

I thought the first episode was pretty decent. Hell, I’d even call it good. E2 through E4 were bad. E2 and E4 were especially terrible, probably bottom 5 all-time.

I’ll still finish the season, but I don’t know what the hell they’re doing anymore. Hopefully they’re at least using their good ideas for Solar Opposites.

Not digging Yellowjackets as much as many itt, through 4 or 5 episodes and I was hoping for more cannibalism and other weird shit.

NY Post headline:

“Ducy enjoys watching young adult girls eating each other”

I did not enjoy and stopped watching.

Righteous Gemstones - for a satirical comedy show they can pull of long stretches of drama. Also those kids somehow nailed the older kids inflections.

John Goodman still putting in some good work

OK I take this back. Season Two took a while to get going but episodes 4 and 5 have been extremely entertaining. Zendaya is really something else.

E4 is IMO the worst episode of Rick and Morty.

Episode 8 is where things get a bit better. But it isn’t particularly funny and I don’t recall it trying to be.

The final episode showed quite a bit of potential but the pacing was terrible. They basically crammed a season’s worth of story material into 2 minutes. The show probably would’ve been really good to actually use it and build on it but as they constantly emphasize when breaking the fourth wall, they hate continuity and want episodic material.

All in all, it was like season 4 but worse. Like season 4, most of the crap is in the beginning and the events in the end leave hope for something better next season but probably won’t deliver.

I think Get Schwifty still wins that crown for me, but this one is in the discussion.

More cannibalism and weird shit coming.

Get Schwifty wasn’t much good but was funny in a cheesy, B-movie way. Incest baby is gross. Felt like one of the writers was absolutely committed to doing an episode related to incest no matter what.

Also, incest baby comes back later which implies that they actually thought the idea was good.

wat

I know. And it was in probably the 2nd worst episode of the series.

Felt like they guided Lynch way more than Conan for obvious reasons. But he is legitimately funny and carried the bit he and Gronk did for the super bowl years ago where they played Xbox.

Ok good to know I’ll keep at it

My wife and I watched “Postcards from the Edge” last night, and I got to thinking about how immensely talented Streep is, to the point that I have enjoyed literally every movie Ive ever seen her in, with one of them (Doubt) being in my top 5 all time. I got to wondering if there are any current actors or actresses with that kind of generational talent working today. Somebody who will be working 40-50 years ago with minimal blemishes on their record, and Zendaya was the first possibility to come to my head. Any others you can think of?

Saoirse Ronan?
