The Television Streaming Thread: Part II - Hot Takes, Jags Fans, and Bert

Watched the very first episode of White Lotus (season 1) because of this thread.

I’m intrigued, will continue. Doubt I’ll be caught up by the time the S2 finale happens though.

This is probably a longshot, but my guess is Moltisanti’s son at the hands of the prostitute’s jealous pimp/ex-bf.

Nah man, she’s running a con on him. She’s going to pretend to really like him and wants to be with him but her pimp is demanding the money and, well, if she gives the pimp 10,000 Euros then she’ll be rid of her pimp and free to run away with the sweet young kid.

Now if he just gives her the money she’ll go and give it to the pimp and meet him at the airport.

Cue heartbroken kid staring in the airport like he did at Portia at the clubhouse.

Yah, could be. There was that cryptic comment by Lucia at the pool with Mia where Mia replied “what do you have planned?” and we didn’t get the answer.

OTOH, there have been a couple scenes where Lucia seems sincere about wanting to change/get out of that lifestyle. Also, the interaction w/the pimp seemed a bit too authentic to be staged to trick the kid.

It definitely could go either way. I do think the offhanded remark from the grandpa to the grandson about how women aren’t all saints is setting the kid up to learn a lesson. The show’s good, so there’s no clear cut answer.

I think the pimp conflict is a scam/setup by them to get money or whatever out of the kid.

Not even going to guess what’s coming but happy the show keeps delivering! The asshole rich guy and his wife are absolutely crushing their parts, as is Aubrey Plaza.

That’s what I said to my wife

That’s what I thought too. I though Uncle Rico was going somehow be the big surprise there at the very end.

holy shit i would have never put together that greg was uncle rico

Took me a bit to realize that the blue eyed kid matches that description of the trainer that she “accidentally” showed.

I guess I’m the only one that didn’t really enjoy the last episode. It just seems less interesting that every story line is turning into a scam. Albie getting scammed for his money is at least tragically in character, Harper getting scammed in a presumably elaborate plan to destroy her relationship had potential but having her turn towards Cameron instead of away from all three of them seems like a weird change of character. No idea what’s going on with Tanya’s new crew but it’s starting to look unnecessarily elaborate. And I really don’t care about the hotel manager. Hopefully it finishes strong (is this season also 6 eps?)

Fleishman is in Trouble is very good, but quibble about the end of E2/beginning of E3:

When he ran into the moms at the store and they told him they saw his wife in the park, why did he not immediately say, “Take me to her”?

I just finished bingeing White Lotus S1. Couple of questions

  1. I kind of felt bad for Belinda in the White Lotus, but after thinking about it more, I didn’t really. I’m wondering what the writers’ intent was. Tanya obviously fucks her on the wellness center. However, the whole interaction starts with Belinda fucking with Tanya. Tanya wants to schedule a massage and Belinda lies about being booked up, but there is clearly availability as she books someone who calls in last minute for a ton of shit. Also Tanya still does give her a fat wad of cash at the end.

  2. Why the fuck does Rachel go back to Shane? My leading theory is that the whole situation with Armand made her conclude that maybe Shane wasn’t as crazy as she thought. But maybe it was something else and I missed something?

Could be misremembering but I think Rachel’s change of heart came after a conversation with Belinda. Belinda had already been dumped by Tanya at this point, and during the talk had lost patience and any shred of sympathy for Rachel’s moaning about not being fulfilled bc she was expected not to work and just be rich and married instead.

That did happen, but I don’t think she laid it out quite that clearly for Rachel. As the viewer, we can understand that is where Belinda is coming from, but from Rachel’s perspective, all that happens is that Rachel pours her heart out and Belinda basically says “I’m too tired to listen to this shit” and walks away.

in his defense, he was a spoiled brat and man child but at the same time it does seem like he really does love her. i don’t remember belinda booking stuff for someone else after denying tanya. didn’t she do the weird head massage for her? will need to rewatch those scenes again.

Just watched it. It definitely happened unless I grossly misinterpreted the scene.

Edit:

Here’s a post on reddit where someone mentions it happening also:

  • In the first episode, after Tonya has received her treatment and is standing by Belinda’s desk, Belinda very clearly books a client for a 3pm appointment that same day. There was such a big deal made over the fact that there was absolutely no availability for the day, that it doesn’t make sense for it to just be inconsequential or a script mistake. Why intentionally keep Tonya from getting a massage? It had me assuming that Belinda had some ulterior motive, but so far her character has been fairly two-dimensional. That detail, if not important, seems like a really strange distraction.

I skimmed that thread and didn’t see a satisfying explanation.

One more ep to go for BCS. Don’t imagine much more happens beyond what already has, but the series was a fun, slow, satisfying ride, and now I’m ready for a rewatch of Breaking Bad.
