The Television Streaming Thread: Part II - Hot Takes, Jags Fans, and Bert

Walking Dead Spoilers Rick awakes in an exploding scientific infirmary, finding his missing hand to have been restored and replaced with a robotic one… Michonne arrives on the scene and informs Rick that he had suddenly disappeared three weeks previously, a few days after which aliens had invaded and revealed themselves responsible for the creation of walkers and the downfall of human civilization, planning to use the surviving humans to harvest water, used as a currency on their planet. Rick then witnesses a resurrected cyborg Governor attack Michonne, with an also-resurrected Lori standing by his side. After being told to either join him or die, Rick smiles and prepares for battle

That’s comic spoilers, not TV spoilers.

TWD comics apparently aliens? Fucking really?

Yeah I quit around the same time, maybe made it to season 3 idk. My favorite older AMC show that got disrespected was Rubicon

I stuck it out the entire way (obviously). Definitely got to a point where I wasn’t excited to watch the show. There were certainly good episodes and interesting things happening at times in the slow seasons, but they got fewer and further between as the show went on. The last couple seasons were a slog. The final season was pretty bad - my wife and I just watched because we were beyond pot committed.

I will say, though, that the last couple episodes were pretty good and the finale was pretty satisfying. Wrapped it up well.

I made it to the end of the 6th season, but yeah eventually it was a big of a slog. I found the first couple of seasons were tolerable low brow fund but eventually when all the characters turned over it was hard to keep an emotional connection to any of them. Eventually cheering for the zombies to win against the stupid people gets tedious.

Watching the first episode of Columbo and you couldn’t have asked for more perfect encapsulation of the show. The villain is a rich dilatant too smart by half mystery writer and Columbo shows up as a schlubby lackadaisical cop who’s just asking questions. Him being like ‘gee golly’ at all the rich people stuff is so good.

That’s a good episode. It’s actually the second pilot. The first pilot was made a couple years earlier iirc and features Colombo vs a psychiatrist

This is present all throughout the show over the years, the show mines a lot of comedy out of him interacting with rich and/or powerful people.

It’s really well done. I knew the premise that he’s a working class detective who outsmarts the villain, but when he’s interacting with the rich people he genuinely comes across as being amazed at the stuff which makes the comedy even better. There’s no winking and nodding that he’s secretly smart playing the rube. The bit that was perfect in this episode was he was looking at the paintings in the villain’s house and said

C: “Is this a copy?”

V: “Hardly. It’s an original.”

C: “Gee, I thought they only hung this stuff in museums.”

Watching Wednesday on Netflix and it’s really disappointing.

Is it what I was expecting? Wednesday goes to Hogwarts?

Fuck me the premise is dumb. Wednesday is supposed to be an outcast, not surrounded by a bunch of people like her. Its the exact opposite of the original joke.

Uncle Rico? That’s Lazlo Hollyfeld. Guess all the contest winnings finally ran out.

Ok I signed up with Peacock on the Black Friday deal. What is there to watch?

EDIT: Ah, I see this is the 1883 network. Doesn’t seem to be much here, but hey $1/mo ain’t bad.

peacock is a fucking wasteland outside of the yellowstone extended universe

Peacock might be the single most useless streaming service in a world with immense competition from Amazon, Hulu, Paramount, Apple, etc.

Paramount has Star Trek stuff though right? In Canada we get that on the same streaming service as we get HBO stuff but I am a Star Trek lifer and would miss it.

I’ve never watched The Office, so I can probably get $12 of value out of this.

Nope just dropped on Peacock if you havent seen it yet

Also the WWE network if thats your thing
