The Television Streaming Thread: Now With Felonies

You can save yourself the trouble, you’re not going to like Mad Men.

Hopefully you can catch them all before the quarantine ends, that’s a lot of great TV there! And the beauty is you’re far enough removed now that you don’t have to worry about getting spoiled for the most part, though occasionally you still may be…you’ll come to a scene here or there and it may jog a memory of an SNL sketch or some other pop culture reference maybe. But otherwise you’ll be good to go.

Sopranos and Wire were HBO, so you either have to have HBO or go out of your way to find them. If you’ve got Netflix, there’s no excuse for not giving BB a try.

I still haven’t seen the last few episodes of BB.

You can see the Sopranos and the Wire on Amazon Prime and Hulu, free trialz yo

I started watching Red Dwarf on PBS in the '90s. I’ve watched the first 8 seasons and a couple of episodes of the more recent stuff. I freely admit that a lot of my TV watching in the past decade leans towards science fiction and superhero shit.

The Shield is on Hulu. And it’s the best TV drama of all time.

For Canadians there are a bunch of free older movies and tv shows available to watch at https://www.ctv.ca/movies. The Shield and Justified are both there. I think there are ads though which are easily defeated by using ad blockers.

Yea you probably shouldn’t be posting in a TV thread if you haven’t seen any of the 4 Mount Rushmore serial dramas. Those are touchstones of Western culture.

You don’t need any kind of subscription to watch The Wire or Sopranos on HBO right now. They made them free during quarantine.

When people ride up in pop culture threads bragging about not watching the GOATs, I’m always reminded of this scene.

A sort-of hot take I saw that I think I agree with, much as I love the latter: The Sopranos’ intervention scene is funnier than It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s intervention scene. (Not the whole episodes, just the actual interventions.)

There’s more on TV than just dramas. I generally don’t watch straightforward drama shows at all. You might as well tell me that I shouldn’t post in a general sports thread because I don’t watch any college sports.

I’m more of the sort of person who could use recommendations of shows for people who also love Archer.

Just a reminder if you’ve exhausted the catalog for every obvious streaming service, check out these free services if for no other reason to jog your memories of favorite movies.

Vudu
Roku Channel
Crackle
Tubi
PlutoTV
IMDB
Filmrise
Fawesome
YouTube
WatchFreeFlix

Crackle is owned by Sony so tends to have a lot of good stuff. Tubi is focused on horror//thrillers. Vudu and IMDb have a ton of great stuff you might have forgotten. Pluto has a bunch of good movies but is also nice for its huge catalog of 90s era TV.

Paulie’s, “What, was it barkin’?” line during the dog death reveal literally never fails to elicit a belly laugh from me on each and every rewatch :joy:
