IT was elite. I think a lot of the problems are he wants a lot of control over his work and he isn’t good at transferring it to movie/tv format.
But yeah I think The Stand is worth a watch. They got some really good actors. Cyclops dude from Xmen is Stu Redman. Alexander Skarsgård as Flagg and he’s awesome as always. Greg Kinnear as Glenn who is by far my favorite character.
They also have Amber Heard which I dunno about. I haven’t looked into it but I’ve seen on reddit she did horrible shit to Depp too, but for some reason it’s ignored and she’s seen as a survivor. Reddit is filled with sexist incels so who knows.
I watched ‘The Informant: Fear and Faith in the Heartland’ on Hulu last night. It’s about the Kansas militia that got arrested by the FBI for planning a bombing. When it happened there was a lot of talk about the FBI and their informant instigating it all and entrapment but these dudes were legit crazy.
OK not trying to be That Guy, but am I the only one who thinks Succession is only OK, and Squid Game shouldn’t be a worldwide phenomenon and it’s not actually deep?
Can’t agree with your take on Succession, but can agree with Squid Game. Thought SG was entertaining, but didn’t think it was a deep reflection on society or anything. People are greedy and will do lots of shit for money. I don’t think that’s some type of insightful revelation.
Also, the VIP acting was so bad it took me out of my suspension of disbelief.
I agree that SG is overrated, but this is not a fair sum up of the point of squid game. The players in the game weren’t generally “greedy” they were generally desperate.
Stuff that has that much worldwide appeal is always gonna be more on lighter, fun side. Emily in Paris and Tiger King are also in the top 10 in worldwide appeal and noone would say they’re extremely well made or a deep social commentary.
Just like the most popular music is/was stuff like The Beatles, Britney Spears, and reggaetón.
I cannot actually comment on Succession because I haven’t watched it, but if I’m being honest, even the positive descriptions of it still make me think it’s “Arrested Development but twice as long and half as funny.” (And the most negative reviews of the show I’ve read come from the people I trust the most on this sort of thing, like this one.)
