Also never watched Tiger King, but more because I heard there was quite a lot of animal abuse in it. That’s just not my thing at all.
Put me on the never seen tiger king. I debated it a few times but seems something that is not nearly as interesting to watch outside it’s window of popularity.
It looks like non-US viewers are really impacting numbers. Lupin is solid, but I’d never have guessed it would be #3.
I’ve seen quite a few social media posts about not liking squid game. All of them were watching it dubbed in English.
Motherfuckers, you gotta watch foreign shit in their original language with subtitles or it’s unbearable. Lazy Americans that don’t want to read.
Nobody has time for all that staring at the screen.
we are watching it dubbed, although usually we watch foreign shows with subtitles. i just checked my expectations about dialogue quality and am currently enjoying the show for its visual shots.
speaking of foreign shows. is anyone else also watching Kantaro on netflix? that’s really much weirder than Squid Game if you think about it.
They made a show about me in Japan?
I wonder what % of content is actually watched, digested, and absorbed? I’ll bet 80% of the time a show is watched with phone in hand, texting away, or browsing a couple other tabs in Chrome, and the viewer mostly just gets the gist of the show. Subtitles forces you to actually devote all your attention to an episode for a full 55 minutes and a lot of people probably can’t even do that anymore.
(Not saying anyone ITT is in this category and there are other reasons for wanting dubbing. It was mostly just a random pondering.)
Why do you besmirch those of us who like dubs because we can’t be bothered to properly focus?
This is a good take. I watched it only because of the hype and didn’t think it was anything special, although to be fair I’m not really into reality shows, and as a documentary I didn’t find it all that interesting. The best part of it was the memes.
Tiger King is not good. It happened to drop right at the start of the pandemic when everyone was desperate for mindless entertainment to distract them from not knowing if the pizza delivery guy was going to infect you with a fatal virus. It was the perfect environment for a trailer trash reality show.
Prison break season 1 was amazing. Writers should have had the balls to say we’re going to wrap up and not keep going, but instead we got some really crappy seasons.
Yes, easily one of the best comedies on. They’ve ramped up the swearing so much this season.
After being utterly disappointed when the Hobbit was shown in cinemas and falling asleep I finally watched all 3 films on netflix. I think with enough distance from the book I was able to endure it. Not great but also not totally bad. I am little confused in the end when Thranduil tells Legolas to go North to find the Dunedain and Strider. Where are they supposed to be. During the films there was so much in the North like Angmar, the Orcs came from the wastelands as well so where are the Dunedain supposed to be?
In the end the LOTR-world is still what symbolizes fantasy the most for me. Might be because I read the books when I was still in school and there are decent films about it.
12-13 year old Dan thought this about something in late ‘77 or early ‘78. Then an older neighborhood kid dragged me to the second run theater saying I had to see the new thing.
As soon as that star destroyer passed overhead I was in. Still am.
(I am not comparing TK to SW, just my initial attitude).
The weirdest part was that the SFX are just…worse than the LOTR movies? Despite them being like 10 years later and a similar budget.
Ah, I notice this person is not in season 3; that must be why it was a letdown.
Yeah, I wasn’t particularly interested in the subject material, but it also seemed like an exploitative “look at those freaks” type of show.
WWDITS is quite good. Admittedly I don’t really remember the pilot at this point but I’ve seen every episode (except last night’s).
We love What We Do In the Shadows as well. After the movie, the first episode had us feeling that it wouldnt live up to the movie, but we absolutely love it now. Some of the jokes feel like they shouldn’t work, but they some how always do.
In the same universe is Wellington Paranormal. Not as good as WWDITS, but a fun watch.
Kantaro is great, and if you like it, here are a couple similar food-themed Japanese shows to check out:
-Midnight Diner (my favorite)
-The Solitary Gourmet (the original of this genre)
WWDITS confirmed A+ comedy
