Sounds like your pastor would be a fan of the Loophole.
Funny, but heâs not our priest. That was a one off. No way would we go back.
Oh, I forgot to add that, while it wasnât quite as evil as contraception, Catholics marrying non-Catholics was also in at least the top 5 of most evil things, so that was definitely a highlight, too.
Never heard of Alice before I watched Squid. Then I read this thread. I started watching it today and am only at episode 2. Itâs enjoyable so far. Less so than Squid but still clearly worth continuing.
I was raised Catholic and donât remember anything remotely that interesting. Got dragged to a couple priests who had âspecial spiritual giftsâ or whatever when I was too young not to indulge my momâs apocalypse cult, but I donât remember any, uh, memorable sermons by them. The good ones you could tell were kind, at least.
Fun fact. Apparently I was conceived by my Catholic mother who was on the pill married to her (non practicing) Presbyterian husband. In 1964. I am basically the anti-Christ.
people just do nothing
BANG: lyrical blow to the jaw!
5 bags
As a non-Catholic married to a Catholic, that must have been fun for you. Please tell me you trolled him at least a little after the service.
My preferred form of trolling would have been just getting up and walking out in the middle of the sermon, but MrsWookie wouldnât have it, even if she also knew we werenât coming back.
As a Catholic, I once had a discussion about sermons with a Protestant. They said the sermon was the point and highlight of their services, while it is not the central feature of a Catholic Mass.
Iâve sat through a homily that was more or less a power point presentation explaining doctrine. The more memorable preachers tend to be folksy storytellers.
Grew up Catholic and the sermon would seem like the whole point of going to mass as 80% of the other shit is exactly the same every mass and 15% rotates annually or bi-annually and is also shit youâve mostly heard a bunch. At least with the sermon you get a bit of variety and it can be decent if the priest is a good speaker (not common).
Ha yeah the sermon variance is massive and it really makes or breaks the whole experience. Growing up I remember the pain of getting the old boring priest vs the younger, funnier, and much more concise priest.
I went to catholic church as a kid and I donât think Iâve listened to a single sermon. This was always the boring grown-up speech during which I would try hard to think about something that would make time go faster.
I remember a family vacation in (French) countryside where we went to the local church. I was as usual daydreaming during the sermon when suddenly my parents and grandparents stood up and told us we were leaving. Apparently the priest had started ranting against the jewsâŚ
The nun on Midnight Mass is infuriating
Worth a watch? I just finished Alice so Iâm ready for something new.
So far so good. Go for it if you like X-Files or The Outsider.
I made it about 40 minutes into episode one of Midnight Mass. Just one manâs opinion but I was cringing constantly, I thought it was really bad.
I enjoyed it. Boy great or anything but enjoyable
Finished Squid Game.
Iâll have a think about it, but as of right now, I was really not a fan of the ending.
My feelings are exactly the same as yours.
