The Television Streaming Thread: Now With Felonies

Maybe this is a hot take here, but I enjoyed The Good Place quite a bit through all 4 seasons.

Did people actually like ā€œBill and Ted Face the Musicā€? I expected it to be bad, but it was really bad.

I didnā€™t hate it. Not something Iā€™d go out of my way to watch again, but not something that would make me leave the room if I were with people who wanted to watch it.

I think Iā€™m more Loki than Sylvie.

For those with a Discovery+ subscription, the Jackass guys did a show for Shark Week. It goes about as well as you would expect a ā€œJackass with sharksā€ show to go. A guy named poopies nearly gets his arm bit off.

I donā€™t think that ideas goes well at all unless someone gets eaten by a shark.

What did people think of the Loki finale? In some ways, it was the opposite of WandaVision

Re: Loki

It was a tedious episode to watch. Overall the series was good but that was a boring episode that didnā€™t really do much other than set up the next big bad villain and delve further into the upcoming multiverse storyline.
The MCU writers will have a tough job keeping this storyline going without making 80% of the screen time being explanations of multiverse war and time travel like this episode was. Itā€™s redeemable but could also start to really suck if not done well.

The 3 MCU 2021 tv shows have been a big fail imo. WV, while the best of them, didnā€™t really accomplish or move forward anything. F&WS was awful tbh, terrible overall storyline, bucky did nothing, ā€œsam is the new cpt america because um we said soā€ was pathetic. Loki predictably ended terribly as well.

Basically all 3 were just movie trailers not actual shows with a beginning and ending. I spent nothing and still felt ripped off.

Just saw this and thought it was shit.Still not really sure what I watched. It seemed to want to get credit for being a serious exploration of sexual assault and be a revenge flick at the same time and as a result didnā€™t work as either.

It actually seemed weirdly crafted as a revenge flick for a generation who thinks Twitter is real, like her final ā€œvictoryā€, spoiler alert, comes in the form of epic clapback text messages. What?

I somewhat agree. The last 15 mins were not good. I thought the rest was genuinely interesting and thought provoking.

Iā€™m watching the Paul McCartney special on Hulu. Itā€™s pretty good. He mentions he doesnā€™t know how to read or write sheet music. Thought that was crazy.

The guy who supposedly worked on their arrangement for ā€œThe Complete Beatlesā€ says they wrote lyrics and the chords and having had to analyze their songs before in college, they definitely understood music theory. It would be trivially easy to teach them to write sheet music.

Paul said he and John would have George write it but he himself doesnā€™t know how.

Paul had a little rudimentary music theory training from his dad (and that was more than any of the others!) but mostly they learned what works by playing loads of covers and noodling around with stuff and having an unbelievable talent for writing songs.

Iā€™ve talked about it before but in college many guitar players couldnā€™t read or write sheet music but could read tablature. I did better than them in classes because they couldnā€™t read and I could even though they were better musicians than me. Some failed out because of it.

The Beatles spent a very long time playing covers and copying styles from other hot artists and also they experimented a ton. By the late 60ā€™s it all just kind of clicked and they started cranking out some extraordinary music. You donā€™t write stuff like Abbey Road without at least an intuitive understanding of what effects various chord progressions will create.

It seems so weird to play piano and not be able to read sheet music. Most kids can read it after a few months of piano lessons or music classes in grade school.

Thereā€™s an awful lot of room between sight reading and not being able to read music at all. I kinda doubt McCartney has literally zero ability.
