Anyone watch star search on HBO? Heard it compared to the before series which is really intriguing.
Finally got around to watching the second half of season 4 of Rick and Morty.
Man did it suck. Good final episode I guess but the character development was all over the map. Continuity is no longer anything.
Whatâs fucked up is that theyâre contracted for 60 more episodes. Think season 5 is ongoing
I didnât mind the second half of S4, but that might be because I watched the entirety of S4 in a short time frame.
The first half of S4 was an absolute dumpster fire. Second half was much better.
cmon Rick and Morty (2013-) ratings - Rating Graph
season 4 was fine minus the train episode which they should have had the humility to not make. And yeah everyone hates the dragon episode but whatever you can have one terrible one per year. Season 5 is off to a decent start though the âdecoy familyâ stuff seems verrrrrry derivative and have to wonder if theyâre running out of ideas.
Iâll grant you that the second half was better (mostly due to the final episode) but thatâs a low bar to overcome.
The first episode of season 5 was interesting. But the sloppy writing thing hasnât changed. Morty has dramatically changed with seemingly no trigger in place. Rick has gone from effectively immortal to needing to be saved regularly, again with no real trigger to cause the change. Jerry and Beth are together, but again Jerry hasnât changed.
Not sure what can make this show better. Iâm afraid itâs gonna go the route of The Simpsons.
Started watching Lupin
Was a fan of the anime that was based on the book series. Theyâre very different but enjoyable in their own ways.
I thought S4 second half was the best Rick and Morty has been in a while and I liked the new episodes too.
I thought the first one was good and the second one didnât have enough jokes beyond the premise personally, although the westworld/ex machina bit was good.
Way too much fourth wall breaking in season 4. Like, I get it here and there but you canât spam it and have it be funny. Became annoying to me.
I mostly just liked that the show seemed to return to having a sense of adventure and inventiveness in its plotting (in particular the fantastic season finale) instead of the season and a half or so we got of everyone in the family yelling at Rick for what an asshole he is but not doing anything about it.
Around the end of season 2, R&M went from episodic to serialized and now it wants to go back to being episodic again. Thing is that you canât just stop an overarching plot short and pretend it never happened. R&M seems to want to have it both ways and that leads to confusion and shoddy writing.
Season 2 is out on Tuesday!
Thats not really true⌠its always been episodic with 1-2 âloreâ episodes a season, which Iâm like almost certain came about by accident more or less by the reaction to the council of ricks episode/evil morty. They clearly hate the pressure to advance âthe storylineâ and tbh I donât really give a fuck, they should just write what they feel like doing. But wouldnât at all be surprised if the back half of S5 the magic starts to fade.
I had a brief gimmick account during the 2020 election, I Think You Should Lead.
(As far as my TV gimmick accounts go, I prefer the Itâs Always Sunny in Philadelphia / The Shield crossover. Which I also donât really do anymore, so hereâs the actual blog so you donât have to sift through the RTs.)
@Trolly I think Loki is good, not great. Iâm kind of an MCU completist, so I was always going to watch it. On the positive sides, I think they have done a pretty good job developing the Loki character so that he can carry a series and also built a pretty interesting world around him (Owen Wilson in particular does some good work). For negatives, I think it suffers from some of the same challenges that Iâve felt with the other tv shows (namely, pacing over the course of a season, and setting appropriate stakes when we kinda suspect that most of the really huge stuff is probably going to happen in the movies).
Loki was doing alright until they decided there werenât any stakes and itâs just going to be time travel nonsense. Iâl watch the rest of it but more for Loki than for the story.
Tell that to the X-Files
Final season of Bosch:
Solid as always, but altogether not that great. More contrived than other seasons. The actual ending was super-rushed. If there werenât a spinoff in the works (itâs definitely happening) I would be much more annoyed by the ending. The acting, the characters, and the city of LA were the heart of the show, with the story always secondary. Which is good, because the final seasonâs story was no bueno.
Just finished it yesterday and agree completely. Would it have killed them to go 3 or 4 more episodes to develop things a bit.
Also, Iâd have been OK with a âHollywood endingâ for the good guys. Also Iâm completely confused about what weâre supposed to think of Irving. The whole multi-season arc with his career and his relationship with the translator just seemed forced in for no good reason. If that ending was the payoff, then totally not worth it.
