The Television Streaming Thread: Now With Felonies

I forget the exact dialogue, but there is a scene in the train where she asks him about his past relationships and phrases it something like, “is there a princess, or perhaps a prince?” and he responds with something like, “a bit of both actually, but nothing serious. I assume the same for you.”

Eta: and I took it to mean that Loki had had sexual relationships across the spectrum but never settled down ('cuz Gods of Mischief be like rolling stones and whatnot)

Yeah, poking around the web, that seems to be a common interpretation. It didn’t strike me as noteworthy, as I took it simply as the existence of many suitors but none seriously entertained.

In Norse myth, Loki took the form of a mare and begat the eight-legged horse Sleipnir.

I’ve been watching Bosch on Amazon Prime, which is based on a series of detective novels by Michael Connelly. Finished the first two seasons, and it’s been pretty good so far. Also, his ex-wife is a prop poker player.

Yeah, I even sort of missed it in real time, but I think a lot of queer folks want more representation so badly that we’re super attuned to anything that hints that a character might be one of our people. Basically, as soon as she mentioned a prince half of West Hollywood started doing the Leo points at the TV gif

lol, love the imagery. Yeah, like I said, I don’t want to stop people from finding representation, nor is it my intention to stake out Loki as a cis het straight man’s man. It’s just that one line didn’t strike me as definitive, and in a character who’s so disguised, it’s hard to say he’s anything for certain.

This is personally somewhat timely for me, as I had an LGBTQ friend just recently write up an interesting post on Facebook about how queer folks are apt to find queer allegory in popular stories that on their surface have nothing to do with queerness or sexuality or romance at all. Looking back into what I had missed made me think back to that post as well.

Dude it’s super clear to me that that was an “he’s out” moment. Crystal clear. Also, he’s bi, not pan, as there’s no greek mythology in the MCU.

If you like cop type shows I enjoyed Mr. Mercedes on Peacock quite a bit

That’s Stephen King, I think, so extra points in my book. Unfortunately I would also have to install Peacock. Free with ads I guess.

It is, and the 1st season is quite faithful. Two great leads as well

I agree. First two episodes were great but that episode was very weak. Also Loki’s powers and overall strength seem to be very weak compared to what they used to be/should be and very inconsistent.

Of course he could just be disguising his true powers or whatever.

Also Loki is a half-Frost Giant, Prince of Asgard, God of Mischief. I just assume he has giant orgies and fucks everything.

S2 in a month.

My favorite Apple TV show for sure.

I liked the early seasons a lot.

The special itself I thought was good but not amazing, but there are more songs and the videos with them that hit really well.

New episode of The Good Fight just dropped. I’m not even sure if it’s good, but, man do I respect the weirdness. I mean, what other show will have a a covid-induced fever dream in which one of the characters debates theories of political change with Frederick Douglass, Karl Marx, Jesus, and Malcolm X?

I’m not sure about Loki looking especially underpowered. At his strongest, he was fueled by an infinity stone that he no longer has. When we last saw him without it, he was a mere speed bump to Thanos. His whole brand, and how he’s spent his whole life, is substituting craftiness for outright might, as a foil to Thor, who has tons of outright might and a relative lack of craftiness, even if he’s been catching on.

Is this supposed to be a criticism? Dr Who is great. I guess if you accidentally create a Dr Who aesthetic thats pretty bad since Dr Who is intentionally goofy.
