An American friend of mine lived in Japan from age 18 to 28 and thus had little experience with tipping.
After he moved back to the states, heād enrage me when we went out to eat and heād begrudgingly leave a $1 tip, complaining even about that, no matter the size of bill. Iād inevitably make up the difference, but no amount of lecturing would change his ways.
As much as I agreed then and still do that the tipping system is asinine and am thankful to live in a non-tipping culture, stiffing workers whose livelihoods depend on tips is not cool.
I think Iāve watched the Bo Burnham āWelcome to the Internetā song like 6-8 times. Just incredibly well written and delivered.
āCan I interest you in everything, all of the timeā is as good of a summation of the internet as Iāve ever heard.
Finished Lasso season 1. Two thumbs up.
Outstanding.
In other return news, Rick and Morty is slated to return June 20; Ted Lasso season 2 drops July 21; and What We Do in the Shadows is back for season 3 starting September 2.
Bo Burnhamās Inside is simply genius. I literally laughed and cried. Itās the best therapy session about the pandemic I can imagine.
Just brilliant.
I just finished it as well. The constant back and forth between ākayfabeā and reality was astonishing. Bo is insanely talented and he deserves all the awards and praise.
Pandemic didnāt change anything for me really so the special didnāt work as well as it did for others.
Iām glad I watched Boās show. I really liked the meta aspects and thinking about how he put it together. I didnāt find much of it funny, but then Iāve never really been a Weird Al kinda guy.
This is exactly how I felt watching it. Talented guy for sure but just not super funny to me.
Itsā¦ a thing. heās 15 years younger than me so Iām not sure what to make of a lot of it. But man if you canāt laugh/enjoy this youāre nuts.
Just thought I would mention a few older shows that people may not have seen that are worth a watch.
Big Love - a great show that I insisted my very reluctant bf watch the 1st episode of and he was totally hooked.
Carnivale- so creepy that if I went to bed before my bf I insisted my dog come with me. Cancelled too early.
The Riches-Also cancelled too early.
Spaced- UK comedy Simon Pegg
Him & Her- Uk comedy Russell Tovey
Thereās heaps of others. Iāll list them at a later point.
Was unaware of Bo. Found the youtubez. Nice.
I saw some of Boās early stuff. Some of it was pretty hit or miss, but really funny when it hit, and his talent was clearly well beyond his years. Iāll definitely be checking this out later.
I remember seeing his original stuff many years ago and thinking it was really well done, especially considering he was just a high school kid at the time (New Math comes to mind, canāt remember the others). Glad to see heās still around, Iāll have to check it out as well
Fun/surprising fact about Bo Burnham: heās playing Larry Bird in the upcoming LA Lakers series on HBO.
Burnhan also plays a small role in one of the best romantic comedies of the past ten years. Big Sick.
