I didn’t get the dislike of Giri/Haji from people here. I thought it was very good indeed and quite original, with (for once) credible characters, a taut plot and fine acting.
I think this is one where the widespread critical acclaim was spot on.

I finally finished the whole thing. I guess I’ve revised my opinion of Macchio’s acting a bit to passable. I’m still not blown away. Also is it just me or is his hair really weird. It looks like he’s wearing a hairpiece, but I don’t think he actually is.
As far as sitcom appropriateness goes, I think that the actress that plays Daniel’s wife seems like she would be the perfect stereotypical sitcom mom.
haven’t seen STELLA? well every episode is available to stream for free so you have no excuse
I just saw an extras casting call for this and thought, “wtf?” and then I vaguely remembered someone posted about it here.
Here’s the synopsis from IMDB: “Three disillusioned women in their 20s with superpowers who used to fight crime together and now resent having lost their childhood to that are faced with the choice of reuniting now that the world needs them more than ever.”
I thought it was just Disney that was going to live action all the things but I guess we’re getting live action Nickelodeon shows too now.
I binged Them this weekend. Holy shit.
The Powerpuff Girls were a CN show. The live action show is going too be on the CW, so we’re getting Powerpuff sex. A bit too old for Matt Gaetz though. Arrowverse producer Greg Berlanti is involved. So is Diablo Cody. Chloe Bennett is the lead and the Powerpuffs are multiracial, so it’s going to be fun when some white people flip out because they think their childhood has been ruined. And Tom Kenney is back as the narrator.
OK you make this actually sound pretty great, I’m in.
Going back to pick up Game of Thrones where I left off in Season 5, and the fight in Hardhome then the fight in Dance of Dragons has to be the widest variation in quality I’ve seen in a show. Hardhome is super tense, bleak, atmospheric. Just great. And then Dance of Dragons is amateur hour with a lot scenes of people standing around when they should be running or doing something and people just waiting around until a dragon burns them.
Does Forever ever pick up its comedy (its all mood and kind of sweet) but I was expecting more out of Fred Armisen and Maya Rudolph.
3 eps left of The Leftovers. This is such a stupid show.
The Goldbergs made the same mistake every other show about kids make. The focused on the youngest kid instead of the older siblings. They should have made the show about Barry, not Adam. Adam looks and sounds like he’s 25. And he’s supposed to be in HS? Yea, OK.
I mean, by the end he had to be at least 25, right?
Fred Savage had to be close to 35 by the end of The Wonder Years
He’s 44 now.
Has anyone rewatched The Wonder Years lately, does it stand up to another look?
It’s still good.
You’ll do a double take when you see Ross from Friends.
It’s very good still
I’m pretty sure hes 70
