The Television Streaming Thread: Now With Felonies

Nope, you’re getting Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.

Honestly I’ve written my own headcannon loosely based on the tv ending and that’ll do for me.

Nooooooo

Let’s just leave GoT forever unfinished :flushed:

Perhaps you’ll indulge a fireside storyteller and give me the broad strokes?? I’ll even photoshop some illustrations if you like

It’s mostly sound effects if I’m honest.

Season 5 is bad, but season 6 has some of the best episode of the series. The Winds of Winter. Battle of the Bastards. Hodor.

S7 is bad and S8 is the worst thing to ever happen to popular culture.

I will caveat it with the notion that I only really care about 2 threads. The main story and the littlefinger sansa side story. Dorne? Don’t care. Zombie Cate? No thanks. Maybe arya kills some dudes or whatever but even that I’m not fussed about.

Little finger now ruling the erie comes up with a devious plan to put sansa back on the throne of winterfell in exchange for her marrying him, big battle against the boltons the plan seems to be going wrong but sansa manages to outsmart little finger and alter the plan to make it work. Great celebrations and a marraige. Then littlefinger finally achieves the purpose of his existence only to have an unfortunate accident on the wedding night where he slips and falls onto sansa’s dagger. Sansa rules the north.

Main story is Cercei going slowly mad. I like her blowing up the chapel and all the kids dying one by one. Jamie sees her for who she is an leaves on a quest to do some small good in the world giving up any claim to the throne.

Dany arrives, cercei has dug in and quartered civilians around all the important city buildings. Jon pleads with Dany to take things slow but with the ironborn in the habour a siege seems pointless. She goes in dragons blazing merks cercei and several hundred civvies.

Dany marries tyrion now heir to the Lannister house and rules with her dragons for some time but Jon gets a message from sansa like hey these white walkers are real assholes any help? By the way I’m queen lol. Dany Jon and tyrion take a dragon each and fly north, big battle, the zombies have some magik that turns drogon and he kills the other dragons. The straggling zombies are killed off by the children of the forest directed by tree bran. Who at the last second wargs into drogon flies up high pauses for a second to appreciate the feeling of flying then dives down and jumps out of the dragons head just before it slams into the ground and dies.

Dany limps back to kings landing sans dragons and having been outplayed by sansa unknowingly signing an agreement that is far weighted in sansas favour for peace. Without her dragons she is less terrifying and less obviously regal. The iron bank call in their loans and she has to raise taxes dramatically. There are rebellions and she has to crack down hard on the populace. At this time Sam comes home and tells everyone the great news that Jon is the real heir to the throne. Jon (because he knows nothing) tells dany but makes sure to say that he pinkie promises that he doesn’t want the crown. That turns her further to the dark side. Eventually Jon has to do the deed and him and sansa have to hold the kingdom together and try to rebuild.

That’s the hopeful ending anyway. There’s also the climate change analogue where the idiots spend so long fighting each other that the long winter night rolls over all of them and everything on the planet dies. Depends on my mood.

Unpopular opinion: Battle of the Bastards isnt a great episode

Lol first viewing of that episode is a white knuckle ride that had me in knots. The claustrophobia is something else. Incredibly made piece of television.

Battle of the Bastards was really good up until the Deus ex Machina ending. It would have been better if it was revealed they somehow had a surprise plan to win the battle rather than the Vale arriving at the exact right moment to turn the tide. Ramsay’s ending was quite fitting though.

After Neds death the writers said “this isn’t a show where someone rides in and saves the day” and then proceeds to do that multiple times throughout the series.

My take as well. S6 was good and was past the book timelines so the notion that the show failed solely because “they passed the books” does not fly with me. It’s been hashed and re-hashed in the 22 thread(s) but they simply started caring more about servicing the fans than providing a quality narrative after S6 and it’s pretty glaring.

And okay you’re past the book’s timeline. So what? GRRM is the only good fantasy writer and all others are bad and the choice is binary?

I don’t even think it’s that. I think they just got bored and stopped caring, so they made sure to check off all the plot points they were told had to be in the endgame without bothering with plausibility or developing them organically or meaningfully tying character motivations to their decisions.

completely ruining Jamie made me pretty mad

In the camp of enjoyment of the bulk of the series outweighed the disappointment at the ending. Can’t all have a perfect Newhart ending.

That said, big hopes for the expanse S6.

I legit wish I could occupy that space with you. Up til S7 I used to rewatch the whole series right before a new season would drop. Since then I’ve had zero desire to revisit it, even to mock it MST3K style.

There are a lot of good fantasy writers, unfortunately none of them were involved with late stage GOT

Watched that Hotel Cecil story on Netflix.

Didn’t know about it beforehand but called basically the whole thing around the second episode. No real drama after that. A lot of off-topic shit about the hotel and conspiracy theorists making peoples’ lives hell.

People are running out of crimes to make interesting. Producers are gonna have to start killing people to have something to make a docuseries about.
