Wow!!! I was iffy, but I think anyone wondering if the show is for them should just watch this scene from the first episode.
Fun to see the Emma Stone clone from The Affair in the villainess role. I think this is a show that, like The Stand, plays much better if you’re very familiar with the books already.
Having said that, I will stop there. Not sure if this makes sense given the overall conflict of religion lol, but the characters are far too face-value wholesome for my tastes.
Like for me, I’d kill to get an eight-season Game of Thrones prequel series about Littlefinger or Varys. Make it a buddy cop show set in Westeros and I’ll personally throw my hat in the ring.
But in all seriousness, a limited series about Littlefinger outsmarting everyone around him would be crazy fun. Make it like Dexter where he’s struggling to find some sort of human connection amidst all that deception and murder in his quest for the throne. It’ll run for four good seasons, three so-so seasons, and one season we pretend doesn’t exist.
Ted Lasso is so good gruelle and I are going to rewatch it about a month after we finished it and we never do that. If you haven’t seen Ted Lasso sign up for a trial of Apple + and watch it immediately, otherwise:
Not the same show but How to Make It in America was a decent, bingeable HBO show. Kind of like if Entourage took place in the fashion industry instead of Hollywood
I started watching HOME SWEET HOME and it was terrible. I quit watching halfway through the second episode. It’s supposed to be some sort of Korean zombie movie thing, based off of an anime or something. Anyway, they play the same Imagine Dragons track at the worst possible time to the point where it makes you laugh out loud… multiple times per episode
Swapped over to ALICE IN BORDERLANDS and whoa, that show is really good so far! In through the first 3 episodes. It’s like Battle Royale combined with escape room elements. A bunch of my favorite sub-genres all in one. I think this is based off of an anime or anime book series or something similar, but I don’t want to get spoilered so I’m trying to avoid reading up on that.
I finished Flight Attendant. It’s kinda dumb, but it does get a little better as it goes. Tone is fairly light (even though it hits on some serious issues like alcoholism) so easier to throw on and watch with the wife than a super serious show like The Undoing (have only seen the first ep of that).
I’m watching some PBS show on the brain (on Amazon) and right now they are talking about some study that scientists at the university of New Mexico did to see if lap dancers earn more money when they are ovulating. Who comes up with this stuff?
Edit: they earn twice as much when they are ovulating.
The researcher: “we thought it was a pretty cool way of quantifying how attractive they are to males”
I finally broke down and got myself a subscription to the Criterion Channel. Loving it so far. The browsing features are pretty terrible; you either have to know what movie you want to watch or browse through on of the featured sets of collections (which is not a bad way to randomly find interesting things). I’m hoping the interface is a work in progress.
Anyway, great selection, strong recommend if you like classics, highbrow stuff and/or weird arthouse shit.
“It appears that our study would have benefited greatly from first-hand observation of the binge-drinking phenomenon,” said Dr. Caroline Worsted of Johns Hopkins. “Our failure to go out and collect primary data at bars and off-campus house parties until all hours of the night skewed our findings, preventing us from accurately measuring just how much fun it is to get ripped.”
