Not the American version of Utopia. Rather, David Byrne’s American Utopia. His broadway show. Spike Lee shot it. It’s wonderful.
Oh lol
No but go on
This line from a review sums it up nicely; “ American Utopia is such a fresh, vibrant, and hopeful display of artistry, a balm for the soul when it feels like despair is in abundance”
Logan visits a swanky barbershop to start afresh in human society with new trim, but finds himself in trouble when his mutant identity is exposed.
Recently I have been thinking about how I missed going to bookstores, and today I happened to find The Booksellers on Amazon Prime. It’s a documentary about rare book dealers, book stores and book collectors. Not a bad way to spend part of the afternoon.
Irony: this post has it
Think you might really enjoy this long-form narrative journalism story about one of the most WOW book heists of all time. Stunningly written and with lots of terrific true twists, this was later adapted into the 2018 film American Animals (currently streaming on HBO).
The two men followed the librarian into the Rare Book Room, and John closed the door behind them. As she was heading toward a display case, Gooch felt a tingling on her right arm and collapsed to the floor.
By one o’clock that afternoon, the 227-year-old liberal-arts college was swarming with campus police, uniformed Lexington Police, plainclothes detectives, and forensic teams, as well as local news crews covering the developing “Transy Book Heist,” a crime that would one day be listed among the F.B.I.’s all-time most significant art-theft cases.
Independent book stores and record shops were such a great part of my life. Video stores, too. Every decent sized city had at least one joint where the owners and staff were really into movies and had all the best artsy stuff and cult flicks. Nothing even remotely comparable has replaced those experiences in the 21st century.
wanted to watch something new so i picked a random-looking show on amazon prime searching for a light sitcom, and i landed on Bridget & Eamon
great show! it’s a modern show about an overly stereotypical rural/suburban irish couple in the 1980s with 6-8 kids who they neglect so hard it makes Shameless look like the cosby show. eamon is a thoughtless lazy drunk who lives to zone out in front of the tv. bridget relentlessly smokes cigarettes in all situations, she’s pretty much the star of the show. the irish accents are funny without being inscrutable except like just one time i had to rewind and put on subtitles.
5 bags of popcorn
I heard it’s the good Hodgkins
new Unsolved mysteries dropped yesterday, just finished the first one.
thoughts below:
From perusing some rankings seems like this is one of the weakest of the set and i hope so cuz its not great. Similar to the one with the dude that “jumped” from the building in the first season, theres just nothing to suggest that there was any foul play at all, i guess they ruled it a homicide somehow but eh i’m not seeing it. I think he had some sort of psychotic break and ended up in the dumpster due to the cold and then it kills him somehow when it gets picked up and dropped and thats that. Also there just wasn’t much to cover so 2/3 the EP was just talking about the dude.
edit: maybe he got hit by a car and they threw him in dumpster, maybe he attacked someone while hes out of his mind and they killed him, but i’m not feeling the “planned hit” drama they were going for
I’m watching Breaking Bad from the start. It’s my second viewing.
Forgot how good it started.
I need more time because BCS is still going, but hard to go wrong rewatching BB.
I’m still soloing Succession, and it’s great, but I got slowed down bc my wife started The Vow while I was sitting on the couch and I got sucked in.
Completely fascinating and crazy (I’m sure most cult stories are). It’s a mind fuck just watching.
I decided I didn’t like The Vow. I think the people making the doc are just as crazy as the subjects, but less evil. The whole thing is very self-conscious and made me uncomfortable.
Xposting…
Prime/Showtime currently airing The Loudest Voice (2019) miniseries on Roger and the creation of Fox News. Just on episode one but very good so far. This one has Russel Crowe as Roger (and Seth Macfarland as Brian Lewis!!! Lolllllllllll)
On episode 2 now and it opens with…9/11
This is like the black mirror version of Newsroom.
Ok I promise I’m not crazy stubborn and refuse to ever admit I’m wrong, but I’m on s1e8 and while Greg just made me laugh talking with Logan in Logan’s office, I still hate him.
Also, are they making Shiv hotter each episode? Because I was “eh” initially and now I’m “eh?”
Marcia is easily the most beautiful woman in the show
