Get the Fainting Couches!
Not popular enough for a law to be passed in like 40 years, for any real reaction to the current case under review, or (we will see) for there to be any real pushback now that itâs overturned.
This Dobbs outcome is also obscuring other stuff, like the fact that SCOTUS is basically going HAM on religious freedom (for Christians ldo).
With the new conservative lineup, obviously churches can defy public health orders during a pandemic. And now SCOTUS is clearly going to rule that a coachâs right to pray on a football field, with his players, after a game trumps those playersâ rights to be free of religious coercion.
Ultimately, theyâre very possibly going to go after Employment Division v. Smith, which is the idea that you canât use religion as an excuse to defy ignore broadly-applicable, neutrally-applied laws.
Justice Antonin Scalia, writing for the majority, observed that the Court has never held that an individualâs religious beliefs excuse him from compliance with an otherwise valid law prohibiting conduct that government is free to regulate. Allowing exceptions to every state law or regulation affecting religion âwould open the prospect of constitutionally required exemptions from civic obligations of almost every conceivable kind.â Scalia cited as examples compulsory military service, payment of taxes, vaccination requirements, and child-neglect laws.
Yes, imagine the idea that people might try to claim a religious exemption from getting vaccinated!
Sure, in theory. Just like gun control, a public health care option and higher taxes on billionaires.
Wake me up when the American public actually votes like that.
Man, I donât see how the upcoming national ban on abortion is going to allow for any exceptions at all. The right is too far gone, and they wonât want to allow for any mechanism that allows for California to be more lax in granting rape or life of the mother exceptions than Alabama would be. Makes me wonder if MrsWookie would be able to get a medically necessary, post-miscarriage D&C in this upcoming hellscape, if a doctor would risk performing that at the risk of facing murder charges.
but they donât vote like those rights are important to them
They are at least going to try
Exactly. Republicans fight to win because they give a shit. Theyâve spent decades engineering this Roe v Wade overturn. Mitch put everything on the line to make it happen. Maybe when women start dying voters will start to gaf. Probably not.

, pro-lifers didnât riot, didnât call for SCOTUS to be burned down, didnât threaten the lives of justices, didnât try to stack the Court
None of this is true
Trump killed hundreds of thousands with his COVID bullshit and was like two packs of armed lunatics in Atlanta and Phoenix away from winning again. Absolutely nothing matters.
Itâs really pretty incredible how little Chuck and Nancy are doing. How fucking hard is it to make people vote on insanely popular shit? Nah, just ship another $800 billion to defense contractors and call it a day. Fuck off you god damn fossils
Looks like itâs going to be big business for abortion tourism on the west coast, assuming states can still have the right to make their own abortion laws.

Except red states are looking to prosecute even if you get an abortion out of state. But I suspect that wonât be enforced unless youâre not white. And of course it doesnât cover the people who canât afford to jet off to the West Coast.
I like that, outside the Beltway, absolutely no one on either side cares about the leaker.
