The Supreme Court: RIP Literally Everything

The (not so slow) march to theocratic fascism in this country won’t be slowed by Dems or the ballot box. And there is zero will for a general strike, mass protests, (NBZ’s favorite) political violence, etc.

Don’t have children and GTFO of this country if you have the means.

Exactly

I stupidly was interested to see how 2p2 would weigh in on this and got thru 1 post before leaving. “Killing babies to pwn Deplorables”

If Alito’s opinion is true, then the answer has to be yes.

Yep the Democratic will won’t be there.

I mean, not really. But yeah. If it’s “run a true progressive” or “never see the inside of the White House again,” I do think someone will get the message and things could change. But is it that simple, no of course not.

You know what would really take things back to the pants-on-head crazy that we experienced on a daily basis from 2016-2020? Sotomayor getting impeached for leaking the document.

Just a reminder that as bad as things are, they can always get worse!

The problem is you have zero political infrastructure for progressives. Like 10 of 535 of the house and senate might qualify as progressive. Progressives have zero party power, zero media power and little public support among Americans.

As much as people on UP want to believe America is just waiting to become a Scandinavian country if only given a chance the fact is America is a deeply conservative nation poisoned by “the American Dream” to hate group social progress.

It’s nearly impossible to imagine an America with even a small foothold of actual progressives.

Who will be the first Republican to explicitly endorse making interracial marriages illegal again? Putting money on MTG.

Trick question?

Surely you don’t think 4 more years of Joe Biden is a real solution?

I hear you, not a lot of progressives – but also, too many old establishment Dems. I don’t see another option and since we’re gonna get Trump anyway (maybe), or a best case scenario is this shitshow we already have and four more years of an old guy who can’t even get on board with cannabis reform, I don’t see any reason to not just say fuck them and give it a shot.

I wonder if Susan Collins has learned her lesson.

Damn, some shrub I’ve never even heard of.

People’s heads are going to explode when Thomas inevitably signs off on making interracial marriage illegal.

I agree with you. I’m just saying there doesn’t appear to be an actual path to that laudable goal.

At some point you have to concede THIS is the America Americans want.

It’s a big country. Lots of different people that want lots of different things.

A longish thread, but it goes into detail about how Alito is slicing all the decisions that rely on unenumerated rights. Cliffs:

Of course this slicing is a total Calvinball about which laws are “deeply rooted within our history” or whatever so they can always come back and change depending on the whatever the Republican political activists want.

Abortion rights are overwhelmingly popular with the American public.
