Perhaps one way to preempt this would be to pass federal legislation protecting abortion rights and the getting getting SC to strike it down based on states rights.
Then when the MAGA folk are in charge and they try to make federal legislation to outlaw abortion everywhere, you pull out the states rights card.
Now I know what you’re thinking. States rights only apply when it lines up with stuff that the conservative justices like. So, above plan won’t work. You’re probably right. I’m just saying there is a chance.
Neither party wants to stop this. Period.
By the way: Thanks RBG. Great job not retiring in the early 2010s.

There’s also a difference between “approval” in a poll and how you react when it’s taken away
I could maybe see just a very wide range of outcomes for why one has a stronger response than the other, conflicting reasons with no way that I know of to figure out which one actually beats the other in terms of strength of response
I’m seeing some polls with 2/3 support for Roe.
Democrats are gutless geriatric pussies. Period. They are completely unprepared for this moment and they are going to continue to get steamrolled. Republicans know this and are acting accordingly. This is just the start.

Maybe people will pay more attention to state legislatures now.
Dems are shitty, but they’re not that shitty. There’s no money (at least I don’t think there is) in abortion being illegal. They certainly want to stop it. Perhaps they don’t want it enough. I can give you that.
I don’t think how something polls is indicative of how far activism will go to have any effect on events like this. I’m sure there are a lot of people who are ambivalent about the existence of each issue - ‘support’ it but they aren’t going out of their way.
Poland is an example, gay marriage isn’t legal and homosexuals are terribly persecuted but nobody cares. Their court banned abortion in all cases (had already been seriously restricted) and mass protests forced the president to not follow through legislatively. Hugely significant in that culture (my family are Polish myself and I was shocked at the groundswell) for protests to achieve anything on an issue so close to catholics.
The all/most is a big deal that makes a huge difference.
Lots of people with abortion as at or near the top of their list of voting priorities do not agree with all/most if you just ask it that way with no further background, because they’re against like 8th month abortions and believe against all reasoning that those would become common

Yup. RBG, this one is on you.
If anyone wants to tell me how awesome she was, I’m gonna lose it like Jenna.

The news will be gone by thursday, let alone november.
They did zero. Absolutely not even a strongly worded statement to stop this. They want it.
The cruelty is the point.
Well, considering that we all know the value of strongly worded letters, what you’re proposing is also doing “zero”.
Definitely gone for dems campaigning/electoral purposes, will be a solid boost for repubs. Waaf
The signature policies of the Democratic Party should be economic issues, not culture war issues.
