The Supreme Court: RIP Literally Everything

That wasn’t because of policy! It was because trump is offensive and belligerent and stupid.

I think his covid incompetence played a role as well, and Trump’s lowest approval rating was when he was trying to repeal Obamacare.

I agree, but what I’m saying is the bill that would force them to jack up property taxes is already passed… So now they’d have to pass something revoking it.

I disagree and this will be a great litmus test. They may have enough of an advantage in Florida that it won’t matter, but like 16.5% of the state is going to get an average of like a $2,200 property tax increase because of this. We’re talking about like 3.5 million people in a state Trump won with a margin in 2020 of 371K. DeSantis won by less than 33K.

Those two counties go something like 59/41 Dem. If Dems can’t get presidential year level turnout in Orange and Osceola off this, they should just fucking give up. I also think this could hurt his support among Republicans, I mean, $2,200 a year in counties with median household income of $61K and $55K is not nothing!

The proper strategy there is to campaign wall to wall on the DeSantis property tax hike, I’ll even help these fuckers since they only speak one language: Ron’s Rising Rates Regarding Residential Taxes!

Meanwhile, they need to drive a fucking wedge in between DeSantis and Trump, by any mean’s necessary. If Trump doesn’t endorse him, or even talks some shit on him, that could be the 1-2 punch to knock him off. You’ve already got Roger Stone in Trump’s ear not to trust DeSantis.

The Dems need to plant some stories about DeSantis talking shit on Trump behind the scenes like six months before the election and let it fester.

The other thing they should do is secretly fund a third party non-crazy right wing candidate to run entirely on a no new taxes platform and attack DeSantis on increasing taxes.

Most of the shitty policies they get away with have the added benefit of being opaque. Like the Trump tax cuts for the middle class that phased out under Biden, so that they didn’t get blamed for rising middle class taxes. Or the repeal and replace bullshit that people fell for.

This is just like wham your property taxes went up and you and everyone know exactly why.

Don’t they have a year to impose the special tax on theme parks with rodent mascots?

I think you’re referencing July 2023? That’s when the special district now ends, I think the tax has to kick in right away.

I still can’t get over them absorbing the district’s debts, which means Disney probably has some degree of a blank check for the next year on top of that $163M tax cut. Like if they don’t repave all the roads and upgrade all the infrastructure and do it under Reedy Creek borrowing, they’re crazy.

It’s basically a lock that the messaging from Rs will be “look at these blue counties and how much they raised taxes. None of the red counties raised taxes. Vote for Republicans or else your taxes will keep going up.”

Disney will reach individual “handshake” agreements with Orange and Oceola Counties. They want their permits to flow and the counties like the money. A deal will be struck.

Elections have consequences.

The widespread “oh my god wtf” reaction on twitter, comprised of very online politics types, is pretty astonishing.

The fuck did these idiots think was going to happen. They’re coming for gay marriage next, and probably interracial marriage after that.

How long until there’s a federal ban on abortion?

Not going to heart your post, but credit for being first to link.

I mean we knew it was coming but I expected some weaseling. Hope this is them catching the car.

Honestly, this is probably for the best. Makes it crystal clear what the party and R judges stand for - rather than just slowly chipping away till Roe was irrelevant. If people still don’t care, that’s on them and we as a country deserve our fate.

Everywhere has abortion funds. Anyone wanting help determining legitimacy of a fund near them or in a more restrictive state, I’ve got plenty of lifelong abortion activist friends to run it by for you.

This is who I trust most from my home state of Alabama:

Directly funding abortions and abortion travel this way makes a bigger impact per dollar than lobby efforts.

Yeah this seems like a massive own goal by Republicans. People will actually vote because of this. Who knows how long it will last though. Thank god I live in Massachusetts and not Indiana or Pennsylvania anymore

This is from a very eDem staffer type. She worked for Hillary 2016 and Booker 2020. Midterms really are gonna be a bloodbath.

Maybe, but there is 0% the Supreme Court overturning Roe v Wade will lead to more of a Republican margin than if it didn’t happen. This is overturning the ACA on steroids. I hope I’m not wrong.
