Of course republicans beating Biden will keep the current republican establishment not only intact but reinvigorated and convinced that reducing the number of people with access to healthcare is a winning strategy going forward. They need to be beat down in order to accept the reality that restricting healthcare access will cost them their jobs no matter who exactly they are running against. 2018 was a good start.
I mean, I think claiming dems losing now is good long term is just a way to rationalize the WAAF mentality when your preferred candidate is no longer an option. Like nobody says “well Bernie is clearly better Biden, but Bernie losing to a candidate I like less is actually better long term for… reasons!!”.
If anyone thinks a divided left and the establishment Center losing against right-wing authoritarians is somehow long-term good for democracy, I have a history book on the Weimar Republic to sell you.
I’m not sure if the Democratic establishment convinced them to bail. One can easily see a path to where they can come to that decision on their own that dropping out is in their best interests. Where I can see the establishment coming in is if neither candidate wanted to drop out before the other, so there were some negotiations done to guarantee they would both exit the race on the same day.
Can anyone make a convincing argument that staying in would have furthered either Klobuchar’s or Buttigieg’s goals?
Republicans seem to be fungible for most purposes, so I don’t know if there is a real Republican establishment because it doesn’t matter which Republican is in charge on most issues. Any differences are mainly superficial.
Most low wage employees dont get " national holidays " off though. Best thing I can think of is have voting be a week long like they’re already doing and also auto-register everyone in the state and automatically send everyone a mail in ballot.
Although of course I will still support making it a national holiday as well.
Even though it was a clusterfuck, Nevada actually had it kinda right. 4 days of early voting, then the actual caucus day. Dump the caucus, make the “main” voting day a holiday.
That way it’s more focused, but can accommodate shift workers, etc.
Pattern the restrictions after blue laws, such as those in states like Massachusetts that prevent most retail stores from opening on Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Also @skydiver8 I have to say I much prefer Pete to Biden. Just wanted to throw that out there because I know you have taken shit from me and others and I bet most of the forum would take Pete over Biden as well.
In Klob’s case, I’m absolutely sure she just wanted to be able to say she lasted longer than Pete. Which makes Pete’s decision slightly more noble…take one for the team.
She’s that petty.
I canvassed last week with a girl who is here for college from MN. Her mom works for a nonprofit that has had to work with Klob before. She said the stories about Klob being a terrible person to work for are all true.
I’ve been roaming around the internet today and watching the online Pete supporters trying to figure out where Biden’s grassroots supporters are, cuz they ain’t online. It’s really sad and a bit scary, tbh.
Say what you will about Pete, but his campaign was so much better run and well-organized than anything I’ve seen out of Biden. Content, digital organization, use of media, etc…if Biden really wants to win, he should probably just hire a ton of Pete’s senior campaign staff.
