How y’all watch the basho? I generally watch grand sumo highlights on the NHK app but man their app sucks
Turn on TV at 4PM. NHK. Channel 1. Works every time 
I have an old desktop that I connect to my TV, Grand Sumo Highlights is usually fine for me but also the Natto Sumo discord has recordings of all the matches and all the juryo matches, I watch that when I want to catch everything. Lot of international fans on the discord.
at 4:00PM on a weekday? Are retirees the only ones who get to follow the matches live?
That’s when the matches are held. Only oddballs like me watch every day from start to finish. The regulars probably just tune in on the weekend.
Terunofuji wins his ninth yusho. Kotonowaka gains promotion to Ozeki. Kirishima denied his bid for Rope. Onosato is the next great Japanese hope.
All in all, a satisfying Hatsu basho.

Does this sort of thing cause the olds in Japan to freak out about Sumo going woke and how people have gotten soft because back in their day you could bully the shit out of whoever you wanted like a real man?
Among the things Hokuseiho was accused of doing to his stablemates was “torching them with fire.”
Yeah, he’s toast.
You definitely hear the older rikishi talk about how “in my day, my oyakata would beat the shit out of me with a wooden stick,” and that kind of thing, but yeah, times have changed and approach just doesn’t fly anymore in today’s world.

More info is coming out, this guy sounds like he was completely out of control, even by the standards of sumo bullying. Looks like he’s finished.
Hokuseiho has submitted his intai papers. He’s done. Now we wait until tomorrow to see Hakuho’s fate (likely a humiliating demotion to the lowest possible Oyakata rank).
