The Professional Wrestling Thread

Holy crap, this brings back some intense nostalgia.

I watched the top three again in full. They’re all perfect. When I saw that the RNC actually put together some decent video packages, my first thought waa, I wonder if they hired some of the WWE production guys.

Miz “Hate Me Now” way too low, and WM 27 is nowhere near the worst Mania of all time.

Other than that, list is solid.

Sadly that’s like 90 in WWE Steroid Era years.

Trump the first WWE Hall of Famer with the 'Rona?

The Rock had it last month

Technically, not a Hall of Famer

DDP had it.

I’m glad Yang is keeping up with this, Vince and pals are pushing this “independent contractor” shit too far.

I don’t want to add to the derail in the POTUS BOWL thread, but I always wanted to see a tag team where the two partners were of different political persuasions, but who agree on kicking everyone else’s ass.

There’s a wrestler named Sam Adonis (the brother of WWE announcer Corey Graves), who worked a pro-Trump gimmick in Mexico.

This is good to see. I’ve known little about Dave’s politics, but in a world where I would assume the majority of wrestlers fall squarely into deplorableville, its nice to see that one of the guys who seems like a genuinely decent dude outside the ring isn’t a deplorable.

This is a decent idea for a tag team if you’re will to put politics in the ring. Plus it makes for an easy breakup angle when the time comes.

Not sure if it fits exactly but I think this has been dabbled with somewhat with the Iron Sheik teaming up with USA#1 partners maybe? Also Sgt Slaughter did that weird assed heel turn with the Iraq Info Minister looking dude in his corner for Wrestlemania 7 I think?

Cant recall anything in current politics though.

I think it would be tough to pull off nowadays. For one thing, WWE is lousy with deplorables especially at the top. For another, the crowds themselves are overwhelmingly Trumpstains and it wouldn’t be hard to incite a riot given the current climate.

The WWE fan base has a strong minority and lower class segment, but the crowds at shows are definitely whiter and more affluent than typical fans. I actually think Trump would get booed if he could show up in front of a live WWE crowd. WWE wouldn’t put him in that position now. The MacMahons are business Republicans, not ideologues.

There was always a political element to Bret Hart’s heel in the US, face in Canada act. Jack Swagger being managed by anti-immigrant Zeb Coulter was a heel act with political overtones.

I kind of want to go all-out with a political wrestling Indy, with cartoonist GLOW-level gimmicks.

Chris Jericho is dumb as shit.
