This is a baffling take for me. Endorsing the frontrunner when you drop out is the standard move for basically every mainstream candidate in every election in my lifetime. There’s nothing particularly “shrewd” about it. Like, at what point did you think he was going to go rogue and side with the anti-establishment socialist? What element of Pete’s backstory told you that was ever a possibility?
Spoiler: all the eDems are going to rally around the frontrunner in the 2024 primary when they drop out.
Biden hadn’t won a primary at the point Pete dropped out and Bernie was the betting favorite in all 50 states at one point very shortly before he did on predictit. If it was just about aligning with the favorite he would have picked Bernie not Biden. He didn’t do that though and
neither did anyone else. Strange.
Is it? The vanilla establishment eDem endorsing the vanilla establishment eDem is strange to you? Again, what part of Pete’s history told you he was going to pass up being Transportation Secretary in favor of siding with the socialist anti-establishment guy? I swear some of you have never followed a presidential election before.
No it isn’t strange, I was being sarcastic. You were the one making the point that he endorsed Biden because he was the presumptive nominee/frontrunner. In hindsight that looks obvious but in late February that was far from obvious. He hadn’t had a decent showing in a single primary at the point Pete did that and Pete had more delegates. You could have made a fortune betting Biden at the point Pete endorsed him. If it was so obvious why did none of the politics sharps here do it?
Of course he endorsed Biden because they are both DemE shitlib types.
Here is what actually happened with the betting markets. Biden wasn’t even favored AFTER South Carolina and Pete’s endorsement:
That still has Bernie as roughly 3 times as likely to win the nom as Biden at the point Pete dropped out. There isn’t any evidence Biden was some shoe-in and that was what was driving Pete’s (and other primary contenders) actions.
There was legitimate panic in both the Dem party and the major media outlets that Bernie would win and that drove everything. Behind the scenes deals were cut in an effort, that ended up being successful, to stop that.
At the end of the day criticism of Bernie and Bernie’s campaign are also warranted regardless of what shenanigans happened.
You are posting like Pete dropped out because Biden was winning. Pete dropping out put Biden in the lead. We were all there when it happened. Hence the rat jokes.
There were no shitty things said about him when he had his kid. You just pretended like there was because you wanted some attention for yourself. And now you keep referencing it like it was something widespread, but it was pretty much just me finding humor in an absurd situation and I’m not even on the Pete-hate bandwagon. So it would be kinda cool if you and skydiver could stop imagining events that never happened so you can fight a battle that never existed in a proxy war I’m not even part of.
He’s a piece of shit for it. Personal gain over something that would benefit the people he claims to represent. Of course the armchair commentary class wants to make it about “surprise” because it’s the only way to “score points”
