The Presidency of the Joes, part II: lol documents

Jesus he is bad at politics. Just stfu and do it and when the supreme court strikes it down say wow the conservatives just did this to you

Iā€™m a statist. I believe in making decisions for other people that I believe are in their best interests.

A statist advocating burning down the system seems a tad oxymoronic

Law! Weā€™re still doing this!

Switching from one system to another has transitional costs. People at the bottom generally bear the brunt of those costs. Some people are reluctant to tolerate the poor paying those costs, so advocate no change or some sort of incremental change which is effectively no change.

So, we usually only get great systemic change when things hit rock bottom and institutions collapse sufficiently to close off the possibility of returning to normalcy.

I thought we were ending fascism bu electing biden but it turns out there are even bigger military and cop budgets, more whistleblowers being processed, more money for the Israel apartheid state. Seems like thereā€™s more fascism

Yes thatā€™s something both parties have been doing forever. Whatā€™s changing is the gop is moving towards ending democracy and making it one party rule, at which point the gop will no longer be constrained by possibly losing to democrats.

While democrats are awful they have done some good this year. If they pass this infrastructure bill in reconciliation they will extend to child tax credit which put a decent dent in child poverty, universal free Child care etc. The covid relief bill and this will be the biggest transfer of the wealthy to the poor in decades. Itā€™s nowhere near enough but itā€™s something

I hate them Dems too but one party rule by republicans is going to be much, much worse.

Iā€™m envisioning something closer to a Handmaidā€™s Tale than Mad Max.

All of this, and rooting for the authoritarians so that there can be a revolution later after they win which will finally bring us the socialist utopia we always wanted has a remarkably poor track record in human history.

I have no idea how lawyers want to work for him. I mean they know theyā€™re not getting paid, right?

Itā€™s hard to over throw an authoritarian government that has support of like 25% support from people. When they have 40% plus like 90% of cops itā€™ll be impossible. It would just be mass slaughter.

That said I donā€™t think anyone on this site is hoping the fascists win, just people saying there isnā€™t a big difference between them and Dems, but yeah theyā€™re wrong about that

You know minus womans reproductive rights and minority voting rights and immigrants rights andā€¦. On and on.

Environmental degradation is actually a big part of the Handmaids Tale world.

The fear of climate refugees is already creeping into right-wing rhetoric, the pandemic, too.

Their answer is going to be the wall with armed guards. Having the military man it. And stop letting them in for any reason so they canā€™t over stay etc

Right, they are going to just crack down harder and Place even greater restrictions on immigration, which was another thing that was happening in Handmaids Tale

Not talking about climate refugees in particular, but the conservatives donā€™t really want to stop immigration, they just want it to be illegal. Reactionaries may want it stopped, but business canā€™t let that really happen. Illegal is good because it helps business use immigrants as more pressure against labor and reactionaries just like punishment for the sake of punishment.

Iā€™m not sure what liberals want. Itā€™s like homelessness. They want it ended in theory, but NIMBY.
