And after than can we talk about the Department of Defense?
My taxes are paying for the richest person on earth to go to space RIGHT NOW NANCY YOU BOOMER GHOUL NINCOMPOOP
I used to be worried about this politically because I feel like it would make uneducated whites super resentful and we would be super fucked, but since weâre about to be in a theocracy you might as well.
One persistent failing Dem strategy is to be Republicans, but 90% so. They think this is smart politics because they will win over people just to the left of Rs, but those people largely donât exist. People that like structural racism, unchecked police, low taxes, etc etc etc donât fall on a spectrum where a bunch of them want it, but just a little less than what the Rs are proposing. The people that want those things want them all the way! And when face with choosing between Rs and almost Rs, they just choose Rs!
So we get the Bi bill or nothing?
Summary
Yes that was intentional
Really unfortunate they get so close to making a deal and hit a snag at the very last minute and have to start all over again.
Fucking fucking fuck
So happy that Joe Lieberman 2.0 is a thing.
Going to be tough for me not to root for the insurrectionists the next time they storm Congress.
Entirely possible sheâs not going to agree to any compromise deal at all and this was just an attention-seeking move.
I remember first hearing Matt Christman say that caring about politics was a mental disorder. At the time I was pretty sure he was being hyperbolic. After the last 16 months or so I have realized he is absolutely right. There is zero, and I mean zero, hope of any progress for at least decades on anything meaningful. There is an entire industry on TV, twitter, podcasts, etc. who want us to keep holding on to hope we are an election away, an indictment away or whatever from progress. Itâs a lie. Itâs just meant to placate enough of us into waiting patiently to prevent protest from disillusioned leftists. And guess what, it works! Not only is there no hope of meaningful progress on anything there is no hope of widespread protest because most âleftistsâ either are blissfully unaware of how hopeless it is or they too are completely defeated.
I mean look at the Floyd protests. Itâs tough to imagine a more widespread righteous outpouring of support for anything. What did it achieve in the end? I wonât say nothing, but it did not bring about meaningful structural change.
So like ya fuck Krysten Sinema and all. She does suck horribly. But she isnât the real problem. The system, money and people who hold power are going to do what they want and there really isnât a damn thing we can do about it. Thatâs the real problem. Itâs why tuning out and enjoying what we have left of our lives is likely the right play. Now I know probably none of us will actually do that but it absolutely is the right play if you place any worth on happiness or sanity.
To be fair, I donât think a single poster on this board actually thought this âbipartisanâ shit was ever going anywhere, or that the reconciliation bill would pass as proposed by Biden.
Maybe Iron, idk.
I mean sure but we definitely had lots of people several months ago telling us to be patient on immigration, student loans, tax reform, Trump indictments, minimum wage, etc. Literally none of it is going to happen.
I generally agree with you. The fantasy that good things will happen if we only try harder will probably persist until I die.
Todayâs villains are Manchin and Cinema but if Susan Collins had lost it would be Diane Feinsteinâs corpse or Mark Warner or Jon Tester or whoever. We had 60 fucking senate seats under Obama and achievedâŚa giveaway to health insurance companies conceived by the Heritage Foundation.
You would think naked self interest would compel stuff like legal weed and student loan forgiveness, but the core conflict in the party isnât really about how to win power, itâs generational. Boomers of both parties fundamentally do not want anything to change.
Maybe the real politics is the yelling at Bernie bros and non voters we did along the way
And if Iâm completely honest with myself, I follow this shit so closely mostly because I find it interesting and entertaining, not because I actually expect anything to change. I canât even fathom the rage of the people with boots on the ground doing the real work. If I had worked my ass off to win those GA runoffs I would probably be borderline violent right now. Not even a token effort to stop voter suppression and gerrymandering, truly disgraceful.
Your overall point is correct but weâll have to see if the Floyd protests were people looking for an excuse to leave isolation or if theyâll drive change in the future. They at the very least made a lot more people question cops and how âgoodâ they are for society.
