There are maybe 4 or 5 house seats tops across CA, NJ, NY, CT and MA where the SALT repeal might make a difference.
So letā€™s not insult anyones intelligence justifying the repeal as some kind of ā€œsmart politicsā€
And before anyone asks I would save thousands every year from this repeal so this ainā€™t some ā€œjealous muchā€ position.

I bet you can ask people that makes $60k a year and have not itemized ever and at least half would think SALT applies to them so they are for the deduction.

Iā€™m serious.

There are like 100,000 people who get 90%+ of the benefit from SALT, all in states that have zero chance of going red, itā€™s just naked corruption

With the new std deduction of $25.1k your looking at people whoā€™s income tax and property tax are more than that.
Thatā€™s typically a family making 250k+ and owning a home worth 600k+.

This is a core Dem constituency, the white collar office job class that is desperately clinging to the last shreds of American middle class lifestyles.

House Dems are saying fuck it and putting 4 weeks of paid leave back in the bill. Not what it should be, but good, let Manchin vote no, fuck it, who cares

Does SALT even apply in Utah? In any case, lol Dems getting dunked on by the guy who has and will absolutely vote to give himself a tax cut

this is so easy. just put a condition on SALT cap that you cannot use it when you are a senator.

Manchinā€™s ideal bill would have at least one Republican voting for it while Bernie Sanders votes against it. Every time Bernie signals he is still on board, Manchin moves to the right.
