Did I say $2 million? I meant $1 million, same as what they gave you.

Why does she stand like that?

I only have inappropriate comments as an answer.

Real answer: She hurt her foot and is leaning on a hands-free crutch.

Are we excited about this plan or not? Details are sparse I guess but ā€œexpanding Medicareā€ and ā€œdoing the infrastructureā€ at least sound like they might actually help people.

I was hoping for 4-5 trillion after they caught republicans in the pickle but yeah this is pretty good and better than most of us expected a month ago. Hell we werenā€™t even sure these two would pass a bill at all

Fwiw Iā€™m pretty sure Manchin/Sinema/a bunch of other shitty moderates havenā€™t signed on to the 3.5T number. From what Iā€™ve read it was a deal that the members of the budget committee made, and none of them are on it, and I havenā€™t seen any statements by any of them saying theyā€™re on board. So with that in mind I would guess best case (assuming it passes which is a big if) this thing gets whittled down to 3T, probably more likely 2-2.5T in the name of ā€œfiscal responsibilityā€. Especially because Manchin said he wants it fully paid for and I doubt theyā€™ve got 3.5T in tax hikes lined up and ready to go, and one of the biggest revenue producers is letting Medicare negotiate prescription drug prices and thereā€™s no way pharma is letting that through. Iā€™m sure theyā€™ll make sure the most popular things get cut first too because theyā€™re the biggest idiots on the planet.

Well shit @riverman you gave me the impression they had said they signed on. If not then yeah this is getting whittled down to like 2.5 trillion with the most popular shit getting kicked. But I mean at least they started at 3.5 trillion instead of Bidens 2.2 trillion which would get cut down to like 1.5 trillion.

If they could somehow pass the bi-partisan bill in the senate then they would have massive leverage over Manchin/Cinema in the house forcing them to eat the whole 3.5 or nuking the bi-partisan bill, but lol no chance thats happening.

All kinds of potholes in this road, but it feels performative to me. They negotiate against themselves to show some level of ā€œrestraintā€

They win exactly 0 votes this way. They lose >0.

Manchin really believes bi-partisanship is how we save the country and Cinema is an opportunist looking to cash in after her senate bid as a lobbyist making absolute bank. Cinema seeā€™s the voter laws AZ is pushing and now her goose is cooked if they stay in place and isnā€™t trying to stop them, so she 100% has ulterior motives.

Pretty sure Manchin will not be running for re-election. He has said so, he could be lying but I doubt it. How often does someone say they wonā€™t run for re-election and then do? Seems very, very rare. Every time Iā€™ve read someone saying they arenā€™t running for re-election they donā€™t.

Donā€™t rule out the possibility that Sinema is a garden variety idiot. As far as Manchin, he was hemming and hawing last time before he decided to give it a go. He might decide to become governor of WV again, and also the Senate should be gone forever after 2024 whether he runs or not so w/e really. As far as people never running for re-election after they say they wonā€™t, remember when Little Marco was running around telling everyone how much he hates the Senate in 2016 and that heā€™d never ever run again? Iā€™d say conservatively weā€™ve got another 5 terms to go for him.

Susan Collins (currently in her 5th term as senator) pledged that she would only be in office for a maximum of two terms.

I stand corrected, I only really started following in 2016 intensely so my history on politics sucks, I just saw all the people from 2016-2020 saying they were retiring and actually retiring.

lol susan collins winning again in fucking maine. Every dem that voted for her deserves a beating.

Not just winning, but winning easily.

She won by 9 points on the same ballot that Biden won by 9 points.

Like a sixth of Maine voters simultaneously went for Biden and Collins. What the fuck.
