The Presidency of the Joes: more like INFRASTRUCTURE WEAK

Senate Democrats at ACB hearing: if we get the majority, we will remember!

Mitch: LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL, I’m so sure you cuck losers won’t do anything that I’m gonna block stimulus checks, lose the senate then keep my power anyway because you’re such impotent cowards.

Senate Democrats: this is unacceptable and will not be accepted

I think it’s within the range of possibilities that Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz do things that hurt their re-election chances.

Welp. One week to feel good about politics. Then right back to all hope being wrecked. Fuck. The Manchin/Sinema statements are crushing.

If you pay close attention to their past behavior, nothing Manchin or Sinema has said should be surprising.

people here keep taking manchin literally even when he contradicts himself the next day. Half of it is which channel or media is interviewing him what he’ll say

it’s day 4 and we got doom and gloom and one of the dumbest statements I’ve ever read from goofy that manchin is a loser when without him mitch is maj leader and he won as a dem in a R+30 or 40 or whatever it is now state in the most hyper polarization in our lives.

Hate him all you want say he sucks all you want but loser is delusional from reality and I don’t believe he wins in 24 either.

Well hey this is why it matters who you select for President

How does it help Manchin and Sinema to be unequivocally against nuking if they plan to change their mind later when Republicans inevitably block everything?

Seems to me it’s much more likely they earnestly don’t want to nuke the filibuster, whether because of some bizarre worship of bipartisanship or because they think voting for stuff is bad for reelection.

Really hope you’re right and they’re playing a game, but I don’t see it.

Would literally be the first time Dems have ever been level 2+ thinkers/actors in my entire life but sure let’s assume it’s all part of the plan

does manchin openly campaign on being able to block democrats on a more insidious level than a standard republican?

I think they might believe that they are unequivocally against the nuclear option, but I also believe that Mitch McConnell is capable of doing things that Manchin and Sinema would have never predicted that may make them reassess their stances.

The real problem here is we didn’t win enough senate seats in 2020.

Maine
Iowa
North Carolina

Were not even close.

Maybe… But if literally holding up the transition of committee leadership to the party that controls the Senate isn’t enough to cause that reevaluation, I’m not sure what would.

I would guess they expect McConnell to eventually come around and they’ll be concerned if he doesn’t move an inch after a certain amount of time and move beyond Susan Collins on the threat scale to actual action if it goes on for a shocking amount of time.

Democrats shouldn’t cave to McConnell’s no-nukes stance. Manchin expects both sides to act like grown-ups and come to an agreement. I think the correct tactic might be to offer a counter-proposal where McConnell has to give up something to win protection of the filibuster, wait for Mitch to reject it, then go to Manchin with evidence that Republicans are being ridiculous. The question is whether Democrats can ask for enough to make you not care if Mitch says yes and the filibuster is preserved.

Or 2018.

Also not enough downballot stuff at the state level in 2020.

And yeah, we are absolutely fucked in 2024. There’s a path for the GOP to have the presidency, the house and 60+ in the senate.

Exactly right.

lol, come on. I’m sure Manchin is absolutely terrified that Bernie is going to start doing rallies hammering him for not supporting the socialist agenda. That’s the carrot, not the stick!

Weird comment, I can’t remember anyone saying that it doesn’t matter who is selected for President. Approximately 100% of people on the forum actually have pretty strong feelings about it.

So he let it go because Minchin promised not to nuke the filibuster? Seems weird. Seems like he could have dragged this out much longer.

Regardless we are super fucked
