$1,400 X 4 for a family of four is $5,600, tax-free. A family of four making $150,000 gets $5,600 tax-free. A family of four making $160,001 gets $0. It’s pretty fucking close after taxes.
Yep, the difference between an extra two months of rent for me and my family is whether they use 2019 or 2020 taxes.
Reminder that Merrick Garland still isn’t Attorney General. A+ job
My kingdom for a grammar check on this Dean fellow
He just wants to say he fought back against radical communists Nancy Pelosi and aoc
He could just listen to Joe Rogan who says that word like 30 times a podcast.
Catching up on the entire day:
You won the election. Act like it.

If overhaul means removes then I’m in favor
The one Republican was a misclick. Being serious.
Could post this in about a dozen threads here:

I live in fucking iowa and can confirm this
The $1,400 cheques are not the only part of the bill. It represents only 22% of it.
The phase is out is dumb and mansheen is a moron but enough with the takes that all dems are conservatives.
The package has increased unemployment insurance, rent aid, food stamps, child tax benefit, child care, healthcare funding, emergency paid leave, small business help, covid relief and help for cities and states (all of whom provide a myriad other social services).
This is an insanely progressive bill and the single largest stimulus ever for any country in history.
This is all fair but it is still an own goal to set up the bill for populist criticism from both the left and the right. The eDems are largely the party of technocratic elitist managers instead of the party of the people, and its a critical problem. If you want popular support for your policies and you find yourself explaining with a bunch of “yes, but …” statements then you have fucked up. This is horrible messaging.
Hey at least they saved .6% of the bill’s total cost! Helping less people and likely losing votes is totally worth it!
The Dems aren’t Republicans and no one here is saying their are. They pretty clearly are completely politically stupid. Whether that is by design or because their brains got melted somehow along the way is anyones guess.
What is most terrifying for me is that nobody around Joe Biden is apparently capable or politically aware enough to stomp up and down and scream until they’re dragged out of the room that this shit is so terrible.
Every single person I respect is saying the same thing: this is stupid. Yet it happens anyway. Not a good sign moving forward.
I honestly don’t know what you mean when you say “the dems are stupid”. 219 of 221 dem congress members voted for the package before this new means testing. 48/50 dem senators were a lock to vote for it before the means testing.
What they are doing is politically stupid. That’s what I mean and it isn’t more complicated than that. It doesn’t really matter why. Stuff like this is so incredibly on brand for them. Manchin and Sinema voted for the old income numbers in the other bills. They are really going to vote no on the whole package over this? I don’t see it.
