I donā€™t know why the standard party line is not ā€œFuck Joe Manchinā€.

He is never giving them what they want, so let him live out there on an island of one.

And this has nothing to do with this particular nomination. This Manchin nonsense is endless and stupid.

Fucking Democrats.

Heā€™s not on an island of one, though. Sinema also opposes increasing the minimum wage as part of the stimulus and removing the filibuster. People should really be as harsh towards her as towards Manchin.

progressives hate him more than republicans to be fair

They should be much more harsh towards her. Democrats could pretty easily replace Sinema with someone to her left in Arizona. That is never happening in West Virginia.

Good news, it is approved as part of the bill. Bad news, bill defeated 52-48.

Gogogogogogogogo

Seriously, we are rightfully cynical but this plus the increased refundable child tax credit is a huge deal.

first one iā€™m super triggered about. like, why? this serves absolutely noone.

Why? Because Biden is backing him? Or because people are opposing him?

I am assuming the former, but I can see reasonable problems with the latter. I guess it depends on which ambassadorship, but the things that are objectionable about Rahm are unlikely to be issues for nearly all ambassadorships. Might as well save your energy for stuff that actually matters.

former. i donā€™t have a problem anyone opposing him (even gop), they all have more that enough legitimate reasons to keep him away. back during obamaā€™s cos phase, i definitely bought into the myth of efficacy. granted ambassadorship to japan or china is not even remotely executive, iā€™m a lot more on the side of heā€™s going fuck it up. kinda interesting that both japan and china both have one-party regimes

Japan has a parliamentary democracy with constitutional monarchy

LDP has had a supermajority almost continually since 1955.
