Most Republicans still won’t say Biden won and are absolutely going to run on the big lie. Washington types instinctively think this is a sign the party is dying because it’s a lie, but that’s absolutely not true. Being full of shit does not mean you will lose.
The narrow point is that a reasonably large D covid relief belief is very clearly better than the McConnell R alternative, that’s all. The D bill itself can still be bad, late, and a lot worse than Sanders could have achieved.
Yeah, maybe, but I think it’s ostensibly tenable for a really left person to feel that certain classes of left leaning people are too complacent and that they need to be confronted with the tensions or contradictions in their political attitudes. The utility of the risk or actuality of discrediting themselves may be less than the utility of the rhetorical misery (and possible self-reflection as a result) they cause to the people they engage with. Like by the 100th time you read that Ds are no better than Rs, maybe you will think differently about it on the 101st time and come around to a more leftist view of things.
Just to be clear, this is not my preferred version of political discourse. I find it incredibly tedious, but ascii shrug, maybe in some calculus it’s the most effective.
I don’t want a dominant political party.
I want a world where Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are thought of as right wingers.
If the party were stronger, they wouldn’t have to run off and do a bunch of crazy shit just because their base wanted them to. Trump is possibly the best example of a weak party leading to catastrophe in the history of the United States.
The Republican Party not being “strong” right now seems like a nuclear take.
They get basically whatever they want. Their opposition is so pathetic that they are practically a non-factor in preventing their agenda.
They have like 40 percent of the country no matter what and if they would just tone down the racism to 2012 levels, they’d have 15 percent on top of that.
If I’m generic GOP congressperson (or want to be one), I am fucking delighted that the Democrats have a trifecta right now.
Only a complete fool who doesn’t realize the power of the bully pulpit could claim that a President Sanders wouldn’t do better things for the people in this spot.
When I’m president my first act will be to make sure that no one who uses the phrase “GTO posting” gets anywhere near the decisions that affect the working poor in this country
Cite or ban that the 3 posts I made imply in any way that Sanders couldn’t have done better. I literally said that saying the D relief bill is better than any R relief bill does not mean the D bill is still not bad, late, or better than what Sanders could have achieved in the same spot. However, your claim about the seemingly obvious power of the bully pulpit is dubious at best.
I was trying to give you a compliment. Your indefatigable trashing of Democrats and constant preposterous equivalences between Ds and Rs are rhetorically miserable enough to read that they have the persuasive effect on me that maybe the Ds are absolute shit just as your posts, logically and empirically speaking, are absolute shit. It’s like an objective correlative or something. Take a W!
it’s February 14th 2021, not being able to accept Bernie isn’t president is equally as deranged as trumpers still not accepting he lost.
Honestly what this country needs is a super dominant Dem party that eventually gets a challenge from the left. Anything else is super terrible.
I feel like you could blame Manchin and a few others soley for this. You seem to think dems are a fully united body.
If they had like 52 or 53 senators that would be a different story. Not sure it’d be any different, but with the current layout and Manchin and a few others being fully against such measures there isn’t shit they can do.
Yeah, if we are talking about a fantasy world where a President Bernie Sanders is attempting to use the bully pulpit to implement his agenda, among the most likely outcomes you have to consider is Joe Manchin finally jumping ship and heading over to the Republican Party where he actually belongs and giving control of the Senate back to Mitch.
Can someone explain the whole recess thing? It makes zero sense. There has to be more to it that I don’t get? Is there something forcing them to go to recess? Honestly, I’ve never understood recess in Congress. For the decades I’ve been following they seem to go to recess at the weirdest times. I remember a recess right after 9/11 too. Is there a certain number of days in rules or something?
Healthcare please
Stimmy please
Kids out of cages please
This is of course a really dumb debate as nobody knows. That said, I can’t find any polling pre covid that puts Bernies chances higher than Biden.
You are right though that Bernie doesn’t lose cause of “evil socialism”. He loses because the media and democratic infrastructure cut his legs out.

The reason for the recess is that there’s a rule that Chris Coons needs vday sloppy top before anyone can get a 2000 dollar check
If the dems dominated and fully occupied the centre right corporatist area of their dreams a new leftist party might emerge. The only hope for the world is the death of the GOP.
The political base of the GOP is structurally overrepresented in the American system, but the party itself is weak. The fact that the party could be electorally dominant due to its structural advantages if its candidates would tone their racism down to levels that aren’t extremely toxic to the college-educated is a blinking neon sign pointing to the weakness of the party. They win less than they should because the party cannot discipline its members to follow a coherent strategy.
In a strong-party system, if the Democrats shift to the left, the Republicans should shift to the left as well and crush them. But in a weak party system, there’s no one with the power to select that strategy. Instead, you get whatever crazy motherfucker turned out enough crazy voters to win a primary.
not to be a nit but ¯_(ツ)_/¯ and (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ and (͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) etc are unicode, not ascii
