The Presidency of the Joes: more like INFRASTRUCTURE WEAK

Yeah but did you know Lincoln was a Republican?

Lol good 1

Democrats in power → We must compromise with the GOP to maintain their current structure and through that the status quo which is to decimate the middle class and minorities while doing the work of corporate masters.

Republicans in power → Fuck you Democrat scum. We’re going to attempt to implement an autorcracy and crush you fuckers into oblivion. Trump 4 ever!

If you don’t think the current dynamic isn’t wildly destructive, then what the hell is?

That’s a separate issue in my opinion. It would be better for the country to not have one side be fascist, as it would massively raise the expectation for the country. That doesn’t mean that democrats should cave over and over again.

Also, y’all not getting what’s an admittedly deep cut reference in that post

Seems right. Eventually. We only heard about this over the last couple days. White House knew about it much earlier.

But it’s not. To advocate for two strong parties is effectively advocating for maintaing the status quo. Having the Dems only marginally stronger than the other doesn’t pass progressive leftist policies. It only provides the illusion of it.

Two different games are being played. Democrats are playing pre-Trump politics where change is slow though continuous and clearly being directed from us to the 1% and government. Compromises are made to maintain that status quo or even slightly accelerate it without anybody but the most fanatical politics junkies noticing.

Republicans are treating politics like war where they are attempting to crush their enemies. When they have more ammo than their enemy, they attack their opponents using their advantage. When they don’t, they play politics and try to bide their time by playing the Democrats game until they regain their power.

This will lead to a slow rightward shift with the Dems and a sharp shift with the GOP in charge. I guess if you’re at the tail end of your life, you can stand behind the former because you’ll be dead before the autocracy begins. For young generations, we are aware that drastic times call for drastic measures. The Democrats need to treat this like a war and quash their opposition. Hopefully, more progressive figures enter politics when the current controllers die off or retire.

Not many people know this but Abraham Lincoln was a Republican. They used to be the less White supremacist party.

Edit—Here’s a Harry Enten article from way back. It’s kind of a Simpson’s Paradox in reverse. Republicans were more likely to vote for the Civil Rights Act than Dems. But if you control for Union vs Confederacy then they were less likely. The Republican craziness is a more recent phenomenon.

That’s a big leap here that I can’t see a basis for, so I don’t see us agreeing on this one.

I’d feel a lot better if our worse case scenario was Romney instead of DJT Jr

Not many people do.

Just the biggest bunch of losers ever. They handed you a reason to nuke the filibuster on a silver platter and you gave them exactly what they wanted.

Game theory is very clear here: retribution is the only play.

Nothing but love for my 150 year old 100m net worth Speaker who wants a nice strong Republican Party. If only they could get back to the status quo of fucking the poor and sick in a more polite fashion

Well, hooray, now they won’t block Biden’s nominations and will totally get on board with pandemic relief legislation. Right?

I’m pretty sure I spidermandidnotwatch.gif any of this trial live, and on balance I think this was the right call. I don’t need any more evidence that Rs will literally do nothing even after people attempted to hang their VP, so do I really give that much of a fuck that we didn’t get to hear McCarthy testify about a phone call? Can’t say I do. I’m actually fine with moving on now, taking the <5% there’s some painful and/or expensive legal stuff ahead for citizen :tangerine:, and then passing as much covid relief as possible, standing up a competent executive branch, and dealing with the pandemic.

Some people run as hot as the sun and avoid the consequences forever.

Well Congress is going on recess and Joe Biden is completely mum about it. Chris Coons wants to get home for Valentine’s Day. Brian Schatz wants to open schools to “salvage the school year”. It’s been 42 days and the checks are nowhere in sight. Pretty safe to say that they don’t care much about pandemic relief.

When Republicans said the Dems would stop caring about the pandemic when Trump left, they were right.

Excuse the proceedings however you like but please miss me with the reasoning that they are trying to be urgent in passing relief.

Yep. And now that they’ve had a taste of Trump, its likely they’ll look for someone like him again. Its a tough act to follow though. I think Mitch longs for the good ole days but the problem is the party is hopelessly split, with more in favor of Trumplike politicians.

Dems are in full control of government and they are allowing a full weeks recess when the checks are out. That is fucking disgusting and will lead to a ton of death. Cuomo is opening indoor dining and Schatz wants schools open. So far, Trump has given out 1800 and Biden has given out zero. There are no additional travel restrictions, there is no talk about quarantining travelers.

The people working in grocery stores near me aren’t getting vaccinated any time soon despite serving this entire time. No one knows when the money is going to arrive.

Yeah, I’m thinking not much has functionally changed.

And my critics can eat my entire ass.

I think it’s close to GTO posting if his agenda is to make people feel miserable about how much the Democrats suck in absolute terms (rather than in relative terms compared to Republicans) by having to constantly defend them in relative terms. I take the both-sidesing as intentional and provocative bad faith, but with a possibly just motive. That said, if the Ds do pass a reasonably good relief bill in the next month and a half, we’re entering cite or ban territory.

Someone needs to introduce Dems to the concept of raising instead of folding.

How many people are going to die in that month in a half? President Bernie Sanders would never let this state of affairs stand. Your timetable for relief comes some serious privilege
