The Presidency of the Joes: more like INFRASTRUCTURE WEAK

Well… I guess I’m staying more realistic than you guys

When the lady with 100 million dollars says she wants to preserve the status quo, I listen dammit!

I would be hesitant to throw that word around when you’re the one talking about a strong, sane, principled, republican party.

Yeah it’s that, not the multiple direct references to the last candidates before trump that I used.

I’ve pretty much checked out of the politics threads these days largely because of what watevs and Chads are gripping about. We are a month and a half into new congress and a little less than a month into Biden and what exactly has been accomplished? There is no urgency when there absolutely should be.

Longer term of course they aren’t nuking the filibuster and so there is no real chance or hope of accomplishing anything. It’s hard for me to bother paying attention. The rage I feel towards the hopelessness of the situation is immense.

Why are the kids still in cages?

That was the logic in 2020 and it was still close

Asylum seekers fall into the same category as prisoners and the homeless. Most people will say the right things but deep down it’s out of sight, out of mind.

The reality is that it’s more politically expedient to project a tough guy image on things like crime and immigration than it is to be a dove. Carter tried being the latter and he got destroyed by Reagan which of course was the first step towards the clusterfuck we’re in now.

40 years of pro-war/anti-immigrant policy hasn’t worked out too well for Dems either.

Well no matter what they say/do, the Republicans always go an extra step.

If the Democrats want to gas Jews, the Republicans would call them weak for not gassing Muslims along with them.

The lack of real action on the border is really unforgivable. He should have rescinded title 42 on day one.

The reason things didn’t get instantly solved at the border is it’s complicated.

When a family shows up at the border, you have to do one of 4 things: separate them, lock them all up, deport them or allow all of them in. There are some adults you don’t want to allow in. There is also the issue that the bureaucratic inertia that restrained Trump also affects Biden. There are already reports of ICE deporting people who Biden ordered to stay.

I dont think its a fact that the pandemic helped Biden. In any normal country, given the response Trump had, he bleeds support. Instead, qanon exploded and he got way more votes. If he just sent out 2k cheques he is probably a lock.

So fire them.

Also get rid of ICE entirely.

Texas sues to get an injunction to prevent disbanding of ICE and mass firings. Courts grant it because they’re stacked.

Now what?

He can’t fire civil servants.

Yeah it’s a tough call. it’s clear Trump also got a ton of turn out from the open for business crowd who thought Biden would close everything down if he won.

No idea how it plays out without covid and I don’t think anybody does either.

I like to think Bernie could have won by turning out a ton of non voters, but they clearly didn’t turn out in the primaries so I don’t know. General is obv different than the primary.

But also as Vict0ar and Whatevs say, he would have had to face the media and establishment undercutting him and attacking him. If they were truly neutral and reported facts I think he would crush, but they aren’t. They would way rather have Trump.

Can’t he just fire them and settle the resulting lawsuit. Worthwhile cost, imo.

Make them sue. Push for congress to defund the program

Show that you actually care about the issue.

“Show that you care” doesn’t make deportees any less deported. Nevertheless, I don’t disagree with your approach. All I’m saying is that it will likely have less effect than you think.

I’m not trying to say that Biden can wave a magic wand and make everything better.

But not even trying is guaranteed failure.

Reassign them. Send 10,000 agents to conduct raids in places like Iowa - preferably places that have no immigrants - but just to be safe, publicly announce it to give anyone there a chance to relocate. Put them up in crappy tent cities and hopefully lots of them start quitting.

Make Texas sue and tie them up in courts as long as possible. Even then, just don’t comply with the order - I’m not sure what recourse Texas would even have.
