Some of the highest earning performers are stand ups. People like Jeff Foxworthy and Larry the Cable Guy still make north of $10M a year. That ventriloquist guy makes even more. Dane Cook is ridiculously wealthy. Some big venues will give the performer the whole gate plus a percentage of concessions (if they’re a huge draw).

Comedians also make big money from private shows and it’s a great gig for them because they don’t have to do any promotion. Money straight into their pockets with few people to split it with.

Musicians can make money these days with private shows, but traditionally they have been massively screwed by record companies. And it’s a hell of a lot hard to put on a music tour than a comedy tour. The residuals can be ok if they own the publishing on songs, but that’s fairly rare.

His fighters had shed considerable blood to wrest territory from the Islamic State and establish self-rule on its former lands. Now, he worried that a complete American withdrawal would not only jeopardize those gains but also subject his people to displacement and slaughter.
“There will be ethnic cleansing of the Kurdish people from Syria, and the American administration will be responsible for it,” said Mr. Kobani, commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces.
I never understood why people saying this was a thing. Are those dollars not fungible?
